Popsugar Beauty Beauty News Inside Out Makeup Challenge These Makeup Looks Spotlight Stigmas Surrounding Mental Health Illnesses May 25, 2017 by Emily Orofino First Published: January 23, 2017 View On One Page Photo 8 of 10 ADVERTISEMENT () Start Slideshow This is my adaptation of @lilmoonchildd 's #insideoutchallenge 😊 this took a lot of consideration before I actually did it because this isn't something that I'm normally comfortable talking about, as it's had a large impact on my life. Being someone who has been to hell and back with depression and anxiety in all their forms, this challenge, to me, became a way to express myself in a form of creativity that I love. Depression and anxiety are both terrible things to experience, and they are horrible to have together. Depression works in mysterious ways - it can take the smallest of things from the back of your mind and turn them into nightmares. It can change you in a matter of seconds, and it can threaten the way you interact with others. Anxiety comes in many forms and can send you into panic mode at any moment. Together they are killers. I have had a lot of trouble with my mental health - and this has effected both myself and the people around me. Whilst I'm not as unstable nowadays, I've never really talked about my troubles and I won't go too far into detail but there had been several occasions where I ended up in a very complicated state of mind and faced the struggles of self harm, as well as the constant belief that everything was always my fault. I know I'm certainly not the only one to have experienced these things, but I also know that those who have often can't help but rely on the voices of others to express their feelings in regards to their mental health. I've faced some challenges in meeting people who did nothing but hurt me, but I've also met some people who have helped me to see the beauty in the world and I couldn't be more grateful for those people. I've had some serious struggles with my family over the past few years, especially in the earlier years of high school, but over time things have seen a better path. I've been through mental and somewhat physical abuse (both inflicted by myself and others) but things have turned for the better over time. I think the raising of awareness for mental illness is a really important step in helping those that have suffered the same come to an acceptance with themselves and the world around them.
