Walking into a MAC store can feel instantly overwhelming for some people. From wall to wall, there are seemingly millions of tiny little black containers filled with magical potions and an impossible number of shades of eye shadows and lip colors. If you're a first-time customer, shopping gets especially complicated. We decided to narrow things down. On a recent press trip to MAC Cosmetics's labs in Toronto, Canada, we asked experts — beauty influencers! — what the must-have products are from the brand's line. Some are a little more obvious, like lipstick, but others are far more obscure buys. Read on for seven hot tips on what items you absolutely need to have in your stash.

MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot in Groundwork

This longwear formula is intended to be used as a cream eye shadow, but it's so much more versatile than that. Influencer Fleur de Force loves using it as an all-in-one product or as a cream contour formula. "It adds really nice definition," she told us.

Influencer Laura Lee jokes that she "lives, eats, and drinks" Fix+. "It will change your life," she insisted. She uses it for everything from dampening her Beautyblender to helping to tack on (and enhance) her loose pigments.

Samantha Ravndahl is equally as obsessed. "If there's an issue, I'm like, 'If I use Fix+, will it make it better?' And usually it does," she told us. She even uses it on her hair as a beachy texturizing spray and on her legs for a soothing postshave treatment.

Influencer Nikkia Joy also works as a professional makeup artist and swears that this formula works flawlessly on all of her clients, regardless of skin type. But it's even more magical than that. "What I love most about it is when you take a photograph with a flash, it looks like your face looks Photoshopped," she divulged. "All your pores are gone, your fine lines are gone, wrinkles . . . it's just being Photoshopped in real life."

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick

It came as no surprise that many of the influencers suggested that MAC's iconic lipstick formula should be in everyone's stash. Not only were they in Toronto mixing up their own custom lipstick shades, but six of them told us that their first MAC purchase was a lip color.

Gabriel Zamora cheekily advised that everyone should buy his limited-edition lipstick, but provided two additional options. Though he's not usually a fan of matte lipsticks, he declared Strip Me Down from the Taraji P. Henson collection "perfection." "It's honestly beautiful, especially on tanned skin tones," he gushed, revealing it was an inspiration for his own shade. He also shared that he and close friend Patrick Starrr are both obsessed with Mocha, a creamy peachy brown.

Victoria Ceridono thinks everyone should own either a nude or a red shade from MAC, recommending Ruby Woo as the most universal red. "The magic with nude is that you have to find the perfect one for you. It's good to play with and try all of them," she said.

Influencer Marie Lopez immediately suggested All That Glitters when we asked her which MAC product everyone should own. "That's the best one, because I am sure everyone can wear it," she said. "It is for every type and shade of skin." The silky beige shade has flecks of gold shimmer that make eyes look wide awake.

Influencer Caro Daur, who is positively obsessed with bronzer and highlighter, sang the praises of the shimmering Mineralize Skinfinish in Global Glow (a warm bronze shade), digging it out of her bag to show us how beautiful the formula is.

Fouz AlFahad also recommends this product range. "They're great for setting your foundation and cream product, plus they are available in many shades that also look great as a bronzer or highlighter," she said.

MAC Cosmetics Eye Kohl in Teddy

To our surprise, not a single influencer recommended a black eyeliner, but one did recommend a softer shade. "The Eye Kohl in Teddy is the most perfect brown pencil with a hint of shimmer," Alessandra Steinherr said. "It suits everyone and takes eyes from casual to sexy in two strokes."
