Porcelain Veneers
What it is: Thin shells of porcelain that are bonded onto the teeth to change the color, size, shape, and width of your smile.
How it works: The veneers are customized by first creating a mock-up on a model to figure out the perfect shape and size of the teeth. Then the patient's teeth are "prepared" for the veneers, which means shaving them down. The client is outfitted with temporary veneers so they can test the look before committing and any necessary changes can be made. Once the veneers are ready, they are applied and, once approved, cemented in the mouth.
Benefits of the treatment: Patients walk away with either a dramatic or natural look — whichever they prefer. The color, shape, and width are all improved. Veytsman said there is an antiaging component to receiving veneers. "A fresh smile can easily take 15 years off of someone's face! Also, a lot of times, people come in with chipped or stained teeth because of their old fillings. This is a stronger and more permanent procedure," she said.
Downtime: Most cases can be completed in three to four weeks, but Veytsman notes she has worked around deadlines with award shows, weddings, and photo shoots to get them done sooner.
Cost: $2,500 per tooth.
