The Daily Front Row held the fifth annual Fashion LA Awards in Beverly Hills this weekend, with celebrity honorees like Kate Hudson and Courtney Love, Sia, James Marsden, and Joan Smalls presenting. One unexpected addition to the lineup was Lady Gaga, who was not announced prior to the show and appeared to present her longtime hairstylist Frederic Aspiras with the hair artist of the year award.

After taking her place at the podium, Gaga mentioned that most might assume that because it was St. Patrick's Day, she would show up with green hair. "But Frederic and I like to piss people off, so tonight I'm just a f*cking regular old blonde," she quipped. During her 20-minute speech, Gaga covered a myriad of memories from her 10-plus-year relationship with Aspiras.

For instance, she revealed it was his idea to have her wear "piss yellow" hair, à la the "Telephone" video. While discussing his vision, she realized it would make her look like living pop art — an idea she was keen on — and Aspiras suggested rooting the look to give it the "Gaga edge." She went on to wear that wig throughout her Monster Ball tour. She also praised him for being able to remove and apply a lace front wig in 35 seconds during costume changes at her concerts.

She noted that Aspiras not only styles her hair but also creates her wigs from scratch, in addition to coloring and cutting her hair. She also said he is the best at blondes and has never ruined her hair, a huge feat given how blond Gaga's hair is and how often she must maintain it. She admitted to the audience she has experienced the worst when it comes to bleaching your hair that often — having it break off — but not at the hands of Aspiras. "There have been big names in Hollywood who have colored my hair, and it has fallen out," she said. "Not with Freddie."

She recounted staying up late before the Oscars bleaching her hair with him because, as she put it, "B*tch, we didn't come this far to go to the Oscars with a root," which had the room in stitches. She touched on how Aspiras inspired her to love herself and how he's more than just her hairstylist — he's her best friend and a brother she never had. When she's sad, he plays her "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley to stop her crying and make her laugh. She recounted how as her star was rising, she would personally request Aspiras be with her on set, regardless of who might have been preferred for the shoot.

"There are no words I could say, no speech I could give, that could adequately express the deep love, admiration, and respect that I have for Frederic Aspiras," she said. Get you a friend who shows you how much they care about you like Lady Gaga does, am I right? She finished her speech by reciting a few lines from her song "Hair" to Aspiras, before Henley's song played and she danced to him with his awards.

During his acceptance speech, Aspiras said the award was for his mother: an Asian immigrant who also styled hair. He discussed how growing up as a gay man with mental health issues made his younger years difficult, but his work has allowed him to find joy and pride in making others feel beautiful.
