Issa Rae hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time this past weekend, and while we were definitely entertained by her hilarious sketches and opening monologue, we couldn't help but also be mesmerized by her soft glam. The Insecure star took the stage on Oct. 17 wearing natural makeup that made her look glowy from head to toe.

"Issa's look for SNL focused on her skin," her makeup artist, Joanna Simkin, said. "With so many quick changes between skits, we had to make her look simultaneously beautiful (never difficult) and relatable, as she was playing such a variety of characters, sometimes with under two minutes for a full hair, makeup, wardrobe change. So fresh skin, a very wearable eye, and a neutral gloss."

To prep Rae's skin for the night, Simkin used the Alleven Ultra Cleanser ($63) and the Alleven Stellar Mask ($74). "Her opening monologue showed a lot of skin, so we buffed out the Alleven Color Shield ($48) in Onyx for light body makeup," Simkin said. The color shield is a quick-dry product made to make the skin look airbrushed and photo-ready — it's also the same body makeup Beyoncé wore during her Coachella performance in 2018, for anyone wondering.
