A Guide to Kristen Stewart's Collection of Tattoos

  • Kristen Stewart has at least 12 known tattoos so far.
  • Most designs are inked on her arms and are smaller in size.
  • Stewart has shared the meaning behind a handful of her tattoos, so we've rounded them up into one comprehensive guide.

Kristen Stewart has been in the spotlight for nearly two decades — starring in her first major film (2001's "The Safety of Objects") at just 10 years old — but despite being a very public figure, she has managed to stay relatively private about her personal life. Still, there are a few things Stewart has occasionally shared, including the meanings behind many of her tattoos.

The placements of the actor's tattoo collection have been relegated to various areas of her arms, including tiny designs on her wrists, forearms, and elbow. As for their significance, Stewart first opened up about her love-hate relationship to getting inked during an appearance at "The Late Late Show With James Corden" back in 2015. "This is my little sign of rebellion," she said. She eventually caved and set off on her journey to getting multiple tattoos. "My whole family is tatted, and for years and years, I was like, 'I do not need that. I'm pure; I stand alone.' And then I was like, 'I really like them now,' and I was like, 'Mom, can you call your tattoo artist?'"

Most of Stewart's tattoos represent various projects or serve as an inspirational reminder, and then there are a handful of more obscure designs that are hard to pinpoint. To help break down each one and better learn their meanings, we've rounded up all of the actor's body art ahead. Keep scrolling to understand more about the designs she's gotten over the years.

Stewart has the words "One More Time With Feeling" inked backwards and vertically on the inside of her left forearm. The actor appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" in July 2016 and explained the meaning behind the tattoo: "It's like a classic thing that directors say to actors, but in addition to that, you can always try again in anything you do," she said.

In recent photos, the actor can be seen flaunting the exact quote inked alongside the old ink (which you can see in the next slide), only this one is lighter in shade and slightly smaller in font size.

Stewart has a smattering of other tattoos located on her inner-left forearm. On the inside fold of her left elbow is the logo for 7-Eleven, a convenience-store chain in the US. Right beside it, the actor also has the the numerics "10 18" inked near the fold. She has not shared the significance behind either design.

While filming the 2014 film "Clouds of Sils Maria," Stewart got transfer tattoos for her character, Valentine, but after two months, she decided to make them permanent. The art piece in question is a black rectangle with an eye in the center and a light bulb as the iris. When talking with IndieWire, Stewart explained the meaning behind the tattoo on her right forearm: "This is part of 'Guernica.' It's a Picasso painting that I saw when I was 18 and in Madrid. It f*cking floored me, and it's the first time I responded to a piece of art like that. It is just perfect for me. I love what it makes me think of. It's like 'keep going, and keep the f*cking light on.'"

Stewart got the word "Swim" ingrained inside an arrow symbol on her right wrist, right above her infinity tattoo. Though its meaning hasn't been disclosed by Stewart yet, many fans believe it's a nod to the 2017 short film "Come Swim," which she wrote and directed herself.

Also on her left wrist, Stewart has two tattoos toward the center. The first is the text "LA," which is likely a homage to her home in Woodland Hills. The actor also has the ampersand symbol "&" sitting below the "LA" tattoo. She has not shared the meanings.

The former "Twilight" star got a matching tattoo with her then-partner, Alicia Cargile, in 2015. While Stewart got the pair of arrows inked right above her right elbow, Cargile added the same design to her right wrist. Although Stewart never shared the meaning behind this particular design, the arrows moving in the same direction might be hinting at moving onward and upward.
