The $9 Product Used to Create Serena Williams’ Bob at the Critics’ Choice Awards

The 27th annual Critics' Choice Awards of 2022 did not disappoint in the beauty department. So many of our favorite celebrities showed up to impress on Sunday night, including Serena Williams, who took her new bob haircut for a swing down the red carpet.

Williams, who was presenting alongside sister Venus Williams, wore a floor-length silver gown with thin, spaghetti straps, which allowed her blunt hairstyle to take center stage. Celebrity hairstylist Alexander Armand created the look for the athlete. "We collaborated on the look and decided to embark on something youthful, fun, and different to accentuate her assets and complement the dress," Armand told POPSUGAR. "Instead of going straight and sleek, we opted for a textured shoulder-length bob with a side part. We thought a more natural, wet-inspired look would play off the fabrics and movements of the dress."

To get this "wet" look, Armand used a combination of two drugstore styling products. "I towel blotted the hair to get rid of excess water and applied the Maui Moisture Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse ($13) to accentuate Serena's natural curl pattern and give hair structure, volume, and moisture." To work it into the hair, Armand ran it through with his fingers from root to tip. "I then used the Maui Moisture Frizz Free + Shea Butter Elongating Gel ($9) in a scrunching motion through hair to create form and set the curls in place. This product is a great finishing tool because it gives flexible hold, so hair has movement and body."
