The Best Summer Perfumes to Wear as the Weather Warms Up

The Armani Beauty My Way Floral ($132) is a classic floral scent. It smells like zesty green mandarin and ripe orange blossoms with just a hint of vanilla.

Not only does the bottle of the Gucci Bloom Eau de Toilette Spray ($115) look like a summer dream, but the scent also matches. It has notes of lemon, jasmine, tuberose, and Rangoon creeper.

You're going to love the fruity, floral smell of the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa '68 Beija Flor Hair & Body Fragrance Mist ($20) so much, it's a good thing it's meant for body and hair.

The Ralph Lauren Polo Earth Eau de Toilette ($106) smells like you bottled up a crisp spring breeze. The light and refreshing fragrance is categorized as a "citrus floral aromatic" with notes of bergamot heart, green mandarin, mint piperita essence, and citron.

If you want a new scent that reminds you of your happy place, allow the Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Cologne ($144) to be just that. With notes of ripe pears and white freesia, it's bright and juicy yet mellow and woody with notes of amber and patchouli.

As the name suggests, the Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de Toilette ($112) is light, sweet, unfussy, and fun. Described as a "free-spirited" scent, when this comes out to play, you know it's time for outdoor summertime fun.

Looking for something that's not too sweet or musky? Try the Estée Lauder Luxury Collection Desert Eden Eau de Parfum ($190). It's the perfect in-between scent. It has notes of sandalwood and Turkish rose, which gives it its unique, woody floral fragrance.

Described by the brand as a "dry floral amber," the Floral Street Arizona Bloom Eau de Parfum ($84) was inspired by the flora and fauna of desert landscapes. To us, however, it smells like a warm summer breeze and sunscreen-slathered skin. Notes of coconut and fig leaves add that quintessential summer sweetness; cashmere, and musk give the eau a sexy, second-skin effect; while jasmine petals provide a creamy quality that will make you want to keep spritzing again and again.

First launched back in 2012, Jo Loves Mango Thai Lime Fragrance ($150) relaunched in the summer of 2020, just in time for the rising temperatures. Created by Jo Malone CBE, the iconic perfumer was inspired by Thailand when crafting the eau de parfum, which features a blend of mouth-watering juicy notes like mango and lime leaf, that are balanced out with a dash of fresh herbs and spices (black pepper, thyme, and mint).

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine ($85) smells legitimately like a fresh-squeezed orange — but with a little zestiness and woodiness to make it interesting and even a little bit sexy.

Maya Njie Tropica Eau de Parfum ($145) doesn't just smell like a lush, tropical paradise, thanks to a combination of warm, juicy notes like citrus fruit, pineapple, and coconut and slightly metallic ones such as iris and ambergris. It actually makes you feel like you're in a tropical paradise; you'll feel calmer and more serene — the same way you do when you've gone on holiday to a remote, sunny island.

As the name suggests, Louis Vuitton On the Beach Eau de Parfum ($280), which is new for 2021, smells like a day spent lounging on the beach. It does so with a blend of citrus notes (Yuzu, a fruit from Japan, to be exact), a combination of green herbs like rosemary, thyme, and pink pepper, which create a "sandy note", as well as cypress — all housed in a bottle the color of a blazing sunset.

Byredo Sundazed Eau de Parfum ($196) is a warm, sunny fragrance but without the creamy, tropical notes of many of the perfumes on this list. Instead, it pairs succulent mandarin and lemon with neroli and jasmine (although, you definitely don't get a strong floral vibe from this fragrance), with bottom notes of cotton candy and white musk. The result is a scent that's tart and sugary at the same time, and that evokes memories of summers spent at fairs with friends or exploring the boardwalk at the beach.

Part of the brand's luxury La Privée Collection perfume range, Maison Christian Dior Eden-Roc Eau de Parfum ($260) is inspired by the historic and ultra glamorous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap D'Antibes. Like many scents inspired by the Mediterranean, Eden-Roc smells sunny and warm, thanks to quintessential summer notes of jasmine and coconut. But what makes this fragrance unique is the salty, mineral notes and the herbaceous green notes that help transport you to the hotel's grounds — from the lush gardens surrounding it to the seawater crashing on the rocks below. Spray it, close your eyes, and you can almost feel the sun on your skin, the water at your feet, and the Mediterranean breeze in the air around you.

Similar to the Tom Ford scent, this fragrance smells warm and vaguely tropical, which is why we've been dousing ourselves in it every summer since it launched in 2019. But whereas the Tom Ford perfume is ultrasexy, Clean Reserve Solar Bloom ($98) is greener and more sparkly. It also contains jasmine and coconut milk, but brings fresh and citrusy notes like mandarin orange, bergamot, freesia, orange blossom, and vetiver into the mix.

Loewe x Paula's Ibiza Eau de Toilette ($79) "reminds me of the sun-kissed summers I spent in Ibiza as a teenager", Loewe designer J.W. Anderson told Women's Wear Daily in an interview, and is inspired by the island's now-defunct iconic boutique.

So what does Ibiza smell like according to Anderson and Loewe's in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles? Beachy, but not in the sweet, tropical sort of way. Rather it's metallic and watery, kind of like the ocean itself — or the driftwood and seaweed that's been washed ashore. There is coconut water in the fragrance, but it's cut with galbanum (which has a green, seaweed-like quality) and synthetic ambergris, which gives the eau de toilette a skin-like quality. Add patchoui, incense, and sandalwood (an homage to Ibiza's bohemian past) into the mix and you have a truly unique summer scent that's fresh, sharp, and incredibly sexy at the same time.

You know that feeling when you step off the plane having landed in your summer vacation destination and the heat suddenly hits you, nearly blowing off your straw hat? That's exactly what Maison Margiela Under the Lemon Trees ($76) smells like. Staying true to the Maison Margiela fragrance style, it smells exactly like sitting under lemon trees on a summer day on the Italian coast.

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc ($163) is one incredibly sexy, summery fragrance. It smells like a hot summer day at the beach with a blend of sultry white florals, spicy pink pepper, cardamom, and sweet benzoin (a natural resin that smells a bit like vanilla). But what really rounds out the scent is the creamy base of coconut milk, amber, and tonka bean, which balances out the spice and makes this perfume smell absolutely irresistible.

"I've always had a Jo Malone fragrance since I was a teenager, but Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede Cologne ($145) made me move away from my signature scent," says Carly Ancell, POPSUGAR UK senior manager, brand partnerships. "It's floral and perfect for summer, but the suede brings a slightly heavier note and a maturity that I really love. It's also long-lasting."

"I fell in love with the bottle of Tory Burch Bel Azur ($130) first," says Sophia Panych, former POPSUGAR content director. |That shade of blue is so calming and reminds me of the ocean. The juice inside, however, is incredibly bright and vibrant, with lots of citrusy and earthy notes that are softened by the addition of peony, patchouli, and cedarwood oil. The refreshing eau is the perfect perfume for when it's hot and humid outside."

A warm, citrusy fragrance, Sana Jardin Berber Blonde Eau de Parfum ($145) is basically sunshine in a bottle. Inspired by summers in Morocco, the scent bursts open with fresh, sweet-yet-bitter smell of bergamot, but then dries down to reveal a sweeter, creamier citrus scent of neroli and orange flower water combined with musk. It's one of the first truly sensual citrus scents we've ever sprayed.

Close your eyes and if you're wearing Hermés Un Jardin en Méditerranée Eau de Toilette ($105), you might just be able to feel the ocean breeze on your skin and the smell of citrus fruits all around you. Meant to evoke a garden in the Mediterranean, what makes this scent interesting is the earthy, green base notes (including fig leaf, cypress, red cedar, juniper, pistachio, and musk), that ground all of the citrus notes at the top and give it a rich, woody quality.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum ($365) is quite possibly one of the most iconic summer scents to ever launch — a perfume that aims to capture the smell of the Italian Riviera, from the citrus trees to the breeze coming off the Mediterranean. A firm favorite of beauty editors, the scent is loaded with citrus notes (bergamot, Mandarin orange, lemon, bitter orange, orange blossom, and neroli), as well as earthy green notes (rosemary, myrtle, and angelica), and a hint of white florals courtesy of jasmine.

Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri Eau de Toilette ($137) is another scent inspired by the Mediterranean, with the scent of oranges featured prominently in the top notes, along with other citrus fruits like mandarin and lemon. What makes this scent fragrance unique, however, is the addition of caramel in the bottom notes, which adds a delectable, gourmand quality to an otherwise fresh, juicy fragrance.

Floral Street Electric Rhubarb Eau de Parfum ($84) is a fun summer's day bottled up in a gorgeous, vibrant bottle. It's an incredibly unique scent — a blend of summer white flowers and rhubarb (which balances out the creamy sweetness of the gardenia and frangipani), with a base of sandalwood. Bonus: all the Floral Street packaging is 100 percent biodegradable and the product is vegan.

Kayali is the brainchild of Mona and Huda Kattan and was born from their love of perfume. The scents, which are inspired by Middle Eastern fragrance culture and the layering scents, were created by the sisters along with French perfume house, Firmenich. Our favorite scent in the range for summer? Kayali Déjà Vu White Flower ($85), which is loaded with white florals, patchouli, and Tahitian vanilla to make it beautifully warm and intoxicating. It also contains a 25 percent concentration of oil, meaning it's both powerful and long-lasting without being overwhelming.

Molton Brown Jasmine and Sun Rose ($80) is a supersweet, holiday-inspired scent that combines fruity notes like raspberry and peach, with soft florals like jasmine, rose, and osmanthus — with the addition of bergamot and patchouli to make it slightly more complex. It smells so good, it almost masks the muggy tube ride. Almost.

If you love rose-based perfumes, then Maison Francis Kurkdjian L'eau A la Rose ($225) is the perfect way to wear it in the summer. The fragrance combines two types of rose: damascena rose oil and centifolia rose, which makes it a perfectly balanced floral perfume without being overpowering.
