Crystal embellishes, metallic lips, and fairy-wing eyeliner make up some of the most popular beauty trends for 2022, but have you seen white eyelashes? This dreamy makeup look may just be the next top trend at award shows and red carpet events. According to Pinterest, inquiries for white eyelashes have increased by over 4800 percent over the last quarter, and after one look at some reference photos, it's easy to see why.
"White eyelashes give a very ethereal look, kind of icy and delicate," celebrity makeup artist Jenny Patinkin told POPSUGAR. "I love the look when they're really bulky, with falsies added in because it's very dramatic in an unexpected way."
The makeup trend, aka "salt and pepper lash extensions," can be achieved by mixing white-colored eyelash extensions or false lashes with your natural lashes. The light-colored hairs can be arranged in a clump toward the end or middle of your lashes, or sprinkled throughout the entire lash line — it's up to you. It gives you a high contrast look that's bold but in a subtle way.
At a lash bar, a technician can apply individual white lashes just as they do with regular eyelash extensions but if you want the look at home without the long-term commitment, a set of fake lashes will do the trick. Patinkin recommended using individual lashes, like the Lashify Curl Silver Gossamer Lashes ($25), or even "eyelash primer without any mascara over the top." Options include the L'Oréal Paris Makeup Voluminous Lash Boosting Conditioning Primer ($7) and the Grande Primer Pre-Mascara Lengthener & Thickener ($25). Under no circumstance should bleach or any other lightening agent be used on the eyes as it can cause permanent damage to the hair, in addition to your eyes.
"It can be tough to pull off [in an] everyday way because it definitely doesn't look natural, but I think it's very sexy," added Patinkin. Check out inspiration for the white eyelash trend ahead.
