The Secret to Zoë Kravitz's Near-Perfect Skin Is $445
Everything about Zoë Kravitz can be boiled down, summed up, and expounded into one word: effortless.
It was this air of confidence, of certain nonchalance, that loomed in the room of the YSL Beauty Hotel in NYC, where she sat cross-legged on a big, red sofa in an understated white Saint Laurent t-shirt for our interview. "I don't really have any beauty regrets, no," she coyly told POPSUGAR, gently setting down her cup of tea.
Don't try too hard, let things go, give yourself time to process — this is what Kravitz lives by. Now, the free-spirited musician-slash-actress is sharing how she applies that mentality to her beauty regimen — which, ironically, does not come free after all.
How Kravitz Differs From Her Character in Big Little Lies
Besides the more obvious, outward differences between Kravitz and her Big Little Lies character, Bonnie Carlson — like that "I wear more makeup in my own life than Bonnie does," she said — there is also a slight variation in how the two practice self-care.
On the show, Carlson often teaches yoga, makes jewelry, or turns to holistic remedies to de-stress, whereas Kravitz is intentional in her self-care in a whole different way. "I limit the amount of time on my cell phone," she explained. "I have a rule: I don't bring it into my bedroom. I try to not look at it first thing in the morning, which I'm sure annoys a lot of people who work with me."
A few other things she does regularly: "I love a good massage. I try and exercise, and I like to steam — I think sweating is really good."
The $445 Skincare Product She Swears By
The biggest lesson Kravitz has inherited from her dad, Lenny: "Just take care of yourself," she said. "He's always on the road, so he makes sure to drink enough water and get enough sleep. That really does directly affect your skin and the way you look and feel."
That's not to say she doesn't take care of her skin in other ways, too. "I use the Retrouvé Intensive Facial Moisturizer ($445) — I think that's what it's called," she said. "It's like this really thick, rich serum, and that's what I use as my moisturizer."
What You'll Always Find in Her Makeup Bag
As the brand ambassador and beauty muse of iconic luxury brand YSL Beauty, you can bet Kravitz's makeup kit is constantly stocked with the best of the best. But if she had to whittle it down to a few select favorites, the lineup would look something like this: Touche Eclat Radiance Perfecting Pen ($38), Couture Brow ($35), Glow Shot Liquid Highlighter ($42), and the Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick ($38), "which I really like because you can use some of the shades for your lips and your cheeks."
Her All-Time Favorite Smell
In a word: California. Or, more specifically: that fresh, crisp California air.
"I grew up in Topanga, and there's just so much green and trees over there," Kravitz said. "It has this clean, beautiful smell. You can feel it when you're walking around, and you can really smell it too."
Why She Keeps Her Hair Maintenance Low-Key
"I don't do much to my hair," Kravitz said, referring to products. "Once the style is done, I don't have to do a lot more to it, which is nice. Also having curly hair — like my really curly hair — the options are limited slash different. You can't do certain haircuts. There's not one look I've done that was awful, but the one thing I always wanted to do was go platinum and I did it."
