CeeLo Green Apologizes For "Idiotic" Comments About Rape

CeeLo Green found himself in hot water yet again when he made controversial comments about rape on Twitter over the Labor Day weekend. The Voice coach, who recently pled no contest to charges that he slipped ecstasy into a woman's drink without her consent in 2012, popped up on Twitter to defend himself against fans who were criticizing him for allegedly raping the woman in question. (No rape charges were filed against CeeLo due to lack of evidence, but his lawyer did claim that the two had "consensual sex.") According to screenshots that were snapped of CeeLo's tweets, the 39-year-old singer made bizarre claims about rape:

"People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH implies consent. . . . When someone brakes on [sic] a home there is broken glass where is your plausible proof that anyone was raped . . . Don't be dismissive now engage me for the truth! You can't just say regardless in a court of law. So if I TRIED but did NOT succeed but the person said I DID then what really happened."

After his comments drew understandable ire from his followers, CeeLo tweeted an apology before deleting his account entirely. He wrote:

"Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context. I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."

However, once CeeLo's tweets and apology got massive public attention, the singer returned to Twitter on Wednesday to clarify his apology:

I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.

As part of his plea deal for his drug charge, CeeLo was sentenced to three years of probation plus 45 days of community service.
