Janet Jackson Gave Us the Pro-Equality Feedback We Needed to Hear in Her EMAs Speech

Janet Jackson proved yet again why she's such a powerhouse in the entertainment industry when she delivered a moving speech at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday. After receiving the global icon award, the "Rhythm Nation" and "Feedback" singer held nothing back as she emphatically championed for love and equality.

"Tonight, I feel moved to speak for women whose voices have been stifled. I am one of those women," she said. She went on to assure any women who have been taken advantage of, abused, or fear-stricken, saying, "I stand with you. You are my sisters. Tonight, I carry the hope that a new world is emerging — a world in which caring people, male as well as female, will no longer tolerate gender inequality."

Janet has certainly had her fair share of discrimination and mistreatment in the industry. Just earlier this year, reports surfaced that the former CEO and chairman of CBS Les Moonves became set on ruining Janet's career after her infamous wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl. He reportedly tried to keep Jackson's future album sales from doing well and kept her from attending the 2004 Grammy Awards because she didn't apologize to him sufficiently.

Evidently, that didn't stop Janet from speaking up for women everywhere while also encouraging everyone to "speak out for a spirit that crosses all borders, recognizes the dignity of all people, and affirms the beauty of all faiths."
