Kerry Washington Reveals Why She Attended the Academy Awards Amid #OscarsSoWhite

Kerry Washington attended the Academy Awards on Sunday night and opened up about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy on the red carpet. While talking to Good Morning America's Robin Roberts on the red carpet, Kerry, who looked gorgeous in a black and white dress, spoke candidly about this year's lack of diversity, saying, "A lot of people have asked me why I'm here tonight, and the thing I'm thinking about is, if you look at the history of movements, the history of change, a lot of the voices are needed at the table. I really respect and actually admire some of the people who are not here tonight, I really get it, but for me, I felt like my voice — in my heart — my voice is best used at the table."

Of course, Kerry isn't the only star who has spoken up about the issue. Stars like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee decided to boycott this year's show, while other stars like George Clooney, Idris Elba, and Lupita Nyong'o all released statements. Watch Kerry's interview above, then check out the amazing advice she would give to her 18-year-old self.
