The Heartfelt Meaning Behind Princess Beatrice's Special Wedding Reading

Princess Beatrice played a very big role in her sister's wedding on Friday. Not only was the 30-year-old royal Princess Eugenie's maid of honor, but she gave a special reading during the romantic ceremony. Beatrice went with a passage from F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, and it was her choice of words that truly touched upon her sister's relationship with now-husband Jack Brooksbank.

"He smiled understandingly — much more than understandingly," Princess Beatrice read. "It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey."

While Eugenie and Jack's love story is quite different than Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan's, it's the kind words that had the bride and groom smiling at each other. With St. George's Chapel filled with celebrity guests, and the royal family looking fabulous as ever, we have a feeling Jay Gatsby would definitely approve of this royal wedding. Ahead, find the video of Beatrice's reading and more photos of her at Eugenie's wedding.
