Ellen DeGeneres is defending her friendship with former president George W. Bush after a recent photo of the two went viral over the weekend. The Ellen DeGeneres Show host gave some backstory during her show on Tuesday and provided the audience with her feelings on friendship. Ellen said she and wife Portia de Rossi were invited to a Dallas Cowboys game by the team owner's daughter, Charlotte Jones. They were set up in the middle of many "fancy" people, including George. "During the game they showed a shot of me and George laughing together," Ellen said. "People were upset. They thought 'Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?'"

"I'm friends with George Bush. In fact, I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have. We're all different and I think that we've forgotten that that's OK that we're all different," she explained. "Just because I don't agree with someone on everything doesn't mean I'm not going to be friends with them. When I say be kind to one another, I don't mean only the people who think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn't matter." Watch the video above to see Ellen's complete response.
