A Look Back at Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Relationship History Amid Engagement Rumors

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has become something of a national treasure in the UK. Her work on "Fleabag" – the hit show she wrote and featured in as the lead character – turned her into a household name. With its comedic genius and moments of breaking the fourth wall, the series was quickly praised for the way it dealt with complex topics like grief, and even won the Golden Globe Award for best television series and best actress for Waller-Bridge in 2020.

The TV mogul went on to write and produce the series "Killing Eve," which was based on novels by Luke Jennings. She also served as the showrunner for season one of the TV thriller. Waller-Bridge additionally held a pivotal role in the creation of the screenplay of the James Bond movie, "No Time to Die." Her work saw the franchise moving away from the sexist depiction of women characters it had long been known for, and instead showcased strong women, ultimately developing the whole storyline for the movie. "She gave us an interesting point of view for several of the characters," Michael G. Wilson, the producer for the movie, said to BBC Radio 4. "It's unfair to think of her as a female writer . . . She contributed to the whole plot of the film."

Waller-Bridge also starred in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" and is working on a remake of "Tomb Raider." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waller-Bridge will work behind the camera as both a scriptwriter and executive producer on the reboot. Unlike the previous versions, the upcoming project will not be a movie like other installments in the franchise, but rather an Amazon series.

Whilst Waller-Bridge has become known for her tell-all, self-deprecating characters, her personal life is kept a little more under wraps than her career. In fact, she told Vogue in 2019, "I'm much braver in my writing life" than her personal life.

Having been married once and divorced, she is now dating Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh. Read on to discover more about her relationship history.

This may be a surprise to some fans of Waller-Bridge, but the star was actually previously married to Irish presenter and filmmaker, Conor Woodman. The pair tied the knot in 2014, and were married for three years.

After a fleeting meeting at a party, Woodman saw Waller-Bridge perform in the 2012 production of Jack Thorne's relationship drama, "Mydidae." In a 2017 The Gentlewoman interview, she revealed a little about their love story, sharing, "I spent most of the play naked in a bath. Conor emailed me to say, 'I'd like to remember what you look like with your clothes on.' I thought it was creepy ... We went on a date, and since then I have basically never left his flat." In 2017, however, the couple announced that they were filing for divorce.

Waller-Bridge has been in a relationship with Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh since 2018. Despite putting on a loved-up display during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival red carpet, the pair tend to keep the details of their relationship private.

The couple were first linked in 2017 when Waller-Bridge was spotted at McDonagh's screening of his movie "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." They were seen sharing a kiss a year later, when he won a Golden Globe for best screenplay, and have been together ever since.

Despite keeping their relationship under wraps, Waller-Bridge gave some insight during an interview with Vanity Fair in June. When asked if she shows him her work, she replied: "We don't really share anything beforehand." When she is asked if this is because it would feel demoralising, she says, "Probably a bit of that. And also, I just really, really fancy him. So if you show someone something, and you fancy them, it can become this blur."

While she admired McDonagh's work before they became an item – which includes "The Banshees of Inisherin" – she is always eager for his opinion of her work. "It's really useful being with someone who I think is a genius, it just ups your game," she says. "I would always have wanted Martin McDonagh to think of my work as good, whether I was with him or not. I find out now, either way!"

Rumours that the couple had taken their relationship to the next level began swirling on Sept. 24, after Waller-Bridge was spotted with a sparkling ring on that finger. Wearing a stunning pink suit, she attended the nuptials of her brother, Jasper, and "Downton Abbey" actor Michelle Dockery, alongside her partner, McDonagh. POPSUGAR reached out to reps for Waller-Bridge, but did not immediately receive a response.
