After seven years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon filed for divorce from then-husband Ryan Phillippe in 2007. Since they parted ways, the couple has made a concerted effort to maintain a friendship for the sake of their children, Ava and Deacon — Ryan and Reese, who married Jim Toth in 2011, are often seen together at their kids' birthday parties and sports games. They were also spotted spending the day out and about with now 16-year-old Ava in 2015.
Ryan has spoken about their commitment to staying amicable for their little ones, saying that he and Reese "have done a really good job at keeping things peaceable and completely focused on" their kids, and revealed their primary parenting goal: "That's been a core element of our parenting, keeping them aware. Neither of us grew up particularly privileged. Our kids are now, so it's important to keep them mindful and I've got to say we've done that job."
