In 2004, Leto began dating actor Scarlett Johansson. They were spotted getting cozy around NYC and LA, and even though they ended things a year later, they reunited at the 2012 Democratic National Convention — and were spotted holding hands and snapping selfies in photos shared by The Daily Mail.
In a 2016 interview with Cosmopolitan, Johansson talked about a past relationship, and though she didn't identify the ex, it could very well be Leto. She said: "Long, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailable . . . but, like, so attractively unavailable." She went on: "Rock bottom is the moment when you're like, 'I've lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn't me.' That is the moment you've gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood."
Since then, Johannson seems to have found a much healthier situation with "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost, whom she married in October 2020.
