A Brief History of Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez's Rumored Feud

The rumored feud all started when Mariah Carey was asked to share her thoughts about Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez during an appearance on a German TV show. After saying the "Formation" singer was lovely, Mariah memorably shook her head and replied, "I don't know her," in response to Jennifer.

Fast forward to 2014, when Jennifer made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live and Andy Cohen straight up asked Jennifer about her relationship with Mariah. She responded, "I don't have a feud against her at all. I know from back in the day that she's said things about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. We don't know each other. I think it's kind of like from word of mouth or things that have happened in the past that I'm not really aware of, but I don't know." She then went on to add, "I would love to meet her and I would love to be friends with her. I think she's incredibly talented and I've always been a fan of hers. 'My All' is one of my favorite songs of all time. It saddens me to hear anything that's negative because I'm a fan of hers."

Almost a year later, this happened. During Mariah's performance at the Billboard Music Awards, cameras panned to Jennifer and there, in plain sight, was the "Ain't Your Mama" singer looking down and texting on her phone.

During an interview with NYMag's The Cut six months later, Mariah threw subtle shade at Jennifer when asked about the craziest present she's received from a fan recently. After yawning and saying she was having a "sleep moment," the singer said, "Well, there was a very interesting shirt that a fan made with a quote that I said years ago that, when I said it, I really wasn't trying to be funny. I was just being honest and everybody's kind of blowing it out of proportion but this guy had a shirt on and it was a picture of me that he made and the quote was underneath it — and I'm going to leave you hanging as to what it was."

The editor then did her research and discovered that the t-shirt in question was a in fact a fan-made shirt with the words "I Don't Know Her" written across it, obviously referencing the star's previous quote about Jennifer.

Jennifer later tried to clear the air when she returned to Watch What Happens Live and played a round of Plead the Fifth, saying, "First of all that was not fair with the texting thing because I watched her. It was a long performance, OK. I watched most of it and I may have looked down for one second." She then quickly added, "So not fair. I was watching her the whole time."

Andy then proceeded to ask her why she skipped Mariah's Vegas show when she checked out a handful of others, including Shania Twain's and Celine Dion's, and Jennifer replied, "I think last year when it started I was already here in New York filming Shades of Blue and Idol on the weekends, didn't have a lot of free time, and then I started preparing my own. I don't think there's been a time when I could have seen it."

Less than a month later, Jennifer stopped by The Wendy Williams Show and weighed in on Mariah's famous "I don't know her" comment, saying, "She does say that. She's forgetful, I guess! We've met many times."

Mariah must have caught word of Jennifer's interview on The Wendy Williams Show because days later when TMZ caught up with the star and asked her about her famous remark, she simply replied, "I still don't know her!"

A couple months later, Mariah dropped by Watch What Happens Live and finally explained why she says she doesn't know Jennifer, telling Andy, "You know what? I'm very forgetful. Apparently, I'm forgetful because I don't remember the fact that it was just like, 'Hi, I'm so and so.'"

The host then asked Mariah if Jennifer seemed cool, to which she responded, "I don't know her. What am I supposed to say? I'm not going to put on a thing like, 'Oh, we're all Hollywood and let's just all pretend we're best friends 'cause we're in that land.' It's no offense to anybody. The question was about Beyoncé and I was saying she's super talented, she's a friend of mine, she's always been sweet to me, she's always been very cool, and then they asked me another question and I was like, 'I don't really know her.'"
