Drew Barrymore Says She's "Not Open to a Relationship" at the Moment

Drew Barrymore has been in the spotlight for over four decades, but there are probably still some things you may not know about her, including her dating history. While Barrymore has remained single since ending her marriage to Will Kopelman in April 2016, the 48-year-old actor and mom of two has been vocal about her fondness for falling in love; over the years, Barrymore has dated fellow Hollywood stars like Justin Long, Luke Wilson, and director Spike Jonze, as well as musicians Fabrizio Moretti and Eric Erlandson — and she's even guilty of "ghosting" on Christian Bale after one date back in the '80s!

In a June 2023 interview with Vulture, Barrymore gave an update on her dating life, revealing she's been swiping on the Raya dating app but hasn't been interested. "I was such a love junkie," she recalled. "I was almost never not single."

"I spent a lot of my life loving romance and drama and all of that," Barrymore told Vulture. "I just burnt myself out on it. I genuinely am tired and exhausted." Barrymore also revealed that she's "not open to a relationship," adding, "I really think I have some serious sh*t buried. And I don't know if it's like I need to try an MDMA treatment or psilocybin as a way to get to some state where I could see things in a different way."

Barrymore and Feldman went on their very first date when "The Goonies" star was 12 or 13 and Barrymore was 10 or 11, per Entertainment Tonight. Recalling their first date during an appearance on Barrymore's talk show in January 2023, Feldman said, "I get a call one day, my grandmother says, 'We got a call from Steven [Spielberg]'s office and the little girl from 'E.T.' wants to meet you because she's got a crush on you.'"

He said they had "a cute little playdate," adding that they were so young at the time that they had to have adults drive them to the movies. "It was so cute. I remember taking you to the movies. I remember exactly which movie theater it was," Feldman said. "You put your little hand up for me to hold. And that was the first. And after that we stayed friends. It was years after that that we actually dated."

Feldman and Barrymore attended the 1989 Oscars together and dated until April 1990.

In 2011, Barrymore began dating her longtime friend, art consultant Kopelman. The two got engaged in December 2011 and tied the knot six months later at their Montecito, CA, home surrounded by family and friends, including Jimmy Fallon, Busy Philipps, Cameron Diaz, and more. Barrymore, who was pregnant with the couple's first daughter, Olive, stunned in a Chanel gown.

The couple welcomed Olive just three months after their wedding and went on to have another daughter, Frankie, in August 2015. They announced their plans to divorce in April 2016 after nearly four years of marriage and in a statement said, "Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on." Since their split, Barrymore has opened up about her "tough time," saying, "It's so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately. It's like you're being put on a cheese grater and every second going, 'Ah! This wasn't the plan!'"

Speaking to Vulture in June 2023, Barrymore briefly reflected on her relationship with Kopelman, saying she sold her house in LA and moved to New York to be closer to Kopelman's family during their time together. "I think that's why I took the marriage so hard," she said. "Because I was the best I could have ever been."
