At Lady Gaga's October 2014 artRave: The ARTPOP Ball tour stop in Manchester, she helped her "incredible friend" Jay pop the question to his boyfriend, Shawn. After she led them both onstage and introduced them to the audience, Jay got down on one knee. After Shawn said "yes," Gaga gave them each a huge hug and serenaded them with a heartfelt rendition of "Born This Way." She also addressed the crowd with a touching message. "My record label, a long time ago, they told me that my show is 'too gay' and I was 'too gay' or this was 'too gay,'" she told them. "I told them, 'Well, it's a great thing that there are gay people all over the world!' Real human beings with real dreams and real stories and you deserve to love and express your love the same as everybody around the world. I wish you a beautiful love and happy marriage."
