You'll Love the Shape of Ed Sheeran's Tattoos Once You Read the Stories Behind Them

Ed Sheeran has a lot of tattoos — 60, to be exact. While the "Shape of You" singer has vowed to never ink his face or neck, he reportedly has a special spot saved for a tattoo when he gets married. Most of Ed's tattoos are on his arms with his left representing his professional accomplishments and his right his personal life. And his collection even includes a design drawn by John Mayer! If you thought Lea Michele was giving David Beckham a run for his money, think again.

Ed got a giant lion inked on his chest to represent "every part of my career put into one." He also thinks "it looks cool and I don't really care if anyone else does too."

The singer got the Sagrada Família church tattooed on the right side of his stomach when he was in Australia.

The three boxing gloves on his arm represent his first three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and his grandfather was also a boxer. (Ed also happens to play a boxer in his "Shape of You" video.) The three-leaf clover is for his "grandad," who was Irish.

Ed has the words "Everything that happens is from now on," a lyric from Bon Iver's "Re: Stacks," in the singer's handwriting.

Ed has the words "Lads on tour" inked on his left shoulder because "I got it with a bunch of lads on tour." He also has a teddy bear on his right arm as a nod to his nickname, "Teddy."

He has artist Henri Matisse's mother and child portrait on his arm as a tribute to his mom. "It was the first thing I bought with a paycheck for my mom. I bought her a drawing of mother and child." Ed also has a heart, a pair of glasses, and a lizard on his right arm.

The kiwi bird on his left arm is from when he toured in New Zealand and the koala bear is from his stop in Australia. He also has a quote that reads, "I came to this world with nothing and I'll leave with nothing but love. Everything else is just borrowed."

Ed debuted his giant tree tattoo on Instagram in 2013, writing, "Got a family tree I did."

The Canadian Maple Leaf on his arm is a tribute of "his first gig in Canada," while the snowflake with angel wings represents his 2012 tour with Snow Patrol. The red Japanese symbol is from the first time Ed played in Japan, and he also has a drawing that Irish singer Damien Rice drew for him when he was 11. The Puss in Boots relates to his song "Wake Me Up," in which he talks about Shrek. Plus, he likes cats. Not only did Ed get a matching Pingu tattoo with Harry Styles, but he also got a Fresh Prince of Bel Air design with the Rizzle Kicks in Philadelphia. His left arm also includes a teacup, the word "Red," puzzle pieces, a paw print, and a plus sign.

John Mayer designed Ed's "Kool Guy" tattoo, and he debuted it on The Late Late Show back in 2015.
