Prince Rainier designed his medal-heavy uniform himself. With medals, ostrich plumes, a sash, and a scepter, the royal's wedding day ensemble definitely made an impression. Since Monaco's armed forces numbered less than 70 men at the time, he designed the military-themed outfit based on uniforms worn by Napoleon's marshals.
Guards from multiple countries stood watch over the ceremony. As Grace walked down the aisle in Monaco's Saint Nicholas Cathedral on the arm of her father, honor guards from British, French, Italian, and American warships stood by.
The Pope played a part in their wedding. Although Pope Pius XII didn't personally attend, he sent a blessing to be read aloud during the ceremony.
Grace read her vows in perfect French. Born and raised in Philadelphia, few would have blamed the American bride for reading her vows in English. She ended up stunning everyone when she delivered them in flawless French instead.
