14 Celebrity Feuds That Left Us Thoroughly Shook in 2017

I don't think I'd shock anyone by saying 2017, for the most part, has been the worst. For instance, if Mona-Lisa Saperstein was a year, she'd be 2017, no doubt. Luckily for everyone who pays attention to celebrity news, there were plenty of high-profile skirmishes (and adorable reunions) throughout the last 11 months to keep us all distracted from the raging dumpster fire that is reality. From Taylor Swift and Katy Perry to Lady Gaga and Madonna, the following celebrities had feuds rivaled only by the one between Starbucks and homophobic coffee drinkers; 2016 has officially met its match.

January: Ewan McGregor vs. Piers Morgan

Following the historic Women's March on Jan. 21, Piers Morgan called the demonstration "anti-democratic" on Twitter and said he would instead be hosting his own Men's March (how'd that work out?). T2 Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor was due to appear on Good Morning Britain shortly after the tweets to promote his film, but upon realizing Piers was the host, he backed out. "Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise @piersmorgan was host," McGregor tweeted. "Won't go on with him after his comments about #WomensMarch."

This prompted Piers to go after Ewan both on Twitter and in a column for the Daily Mail. "You should be big enough to allow people different political opinions," he said. "You're just an actor after all." Ewan didn't release any further statements on the matter, but Piers doubled down on his criticism, tweeting, "Vainspotting." Sick burn.

January: Justin Bieber vs. The Weeknd

Upon first glance, it would probably seem like Justin Bieber and The Weeknd would get along — both are award-winning music superstars, millionaires, fond of partying . . . the list goes on. What they also share, however, is what drove them apart: a love for Selena Gomez.

After Selena and The Weeknd were caught kissing outside of Giorgio Baldi restaurant in January, a TMZ photographer caught up with the "Hands to Myself" singer's ex as he was leaving Delilah in West Hollywood. When asked if he listens to The Weeknd's music, Justin replied, "Hell no, I can't listen to a Weeknd song! That sh*t's wack."

Clearly they weren't on the best of terms, and they likely still aren't. Selena and The Weeknd broke up in October after photos of her and Justin surfaced, which resulted in some gloriously petty moves from the Starboy hitmaker. Not only did he unfollow Selena on Instagram (as well as her friends and family), but he also was seen stepping out with Justin's ex-girlfriend.

If he's petty enough to do stuff like that, I can only imagine what the lyrics on his next album might be . . .

February: Camila Cabello vs. Fifth Harmony

Fifth Harmony shot to stardom following a stint on the second season of The X Factor USA in July 2012. The quintet went on to produce two Top 10 albums and a string of party-ready hits like "Work From Home," but the success didn't come without a few dramatic bumps in the road. There were long rumors of tension between Camila Cabello and the rest of the group, which all came to a head when she left to start a solo career in December 2016. There was a contentious back and forth between Camila and the band about the nature of her departure that left their fans divided.

It didn't take long for Camila to start doing interviews about the split once the dust had somewhat settled. She told Seventeen in February that "Fifth Harmony wasn't the maximum expression of me individually." Former bandmate Lauren Jauregui took to social media to sound off on the quote, tweeting, "Fake that confidence bih, one day it'll be real."

Fortunately for 5H fans everywhere, the drama between Camila and Fifth Harmony seems to have calmed down. For now.

February: Blac Chyna vs. Rob Kardashian

The timeline of Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian's relationship has a lot in common with a roller coaster: there are many dramatic ups and downs, and there's a chance it might make you sick.

After they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Dream, in November 2016, it seemed like the soon-to-be-newlyweds' relationship was stronger than ever. Sadly, a post-Christmas spat got physical, and they broke up by Valentine's Day. They briefly reunited only to break up again in July, when Rob began to post a series of (extremely) NSFW images of Chyna to his Instagram account (which have since been deleted).

Rob then accused her of extensive drug and alcohol abuse and revealed that he paid $100K in plastic surgery costs after Chyna gave birth to Dream. Shortly after his abusive posts went live, Chyna fired back with accusations of him beating her. "Rob u did all this but u beat me up and try act it never happen!!!!!" the 29-year-old wrote on Snapchat. "U put hand on me I swear on god!!!! On my kids but I'm supposed to be quiet because you're a Kardashian."

They've since settled their custody battle, but now Chyna is suing Rob for sharing the naked images of her on Instagram (an anti-revenge-porn law was implemented in California in 2013) and is reportedly seeking over $10 million. Here's hoping they can resolve this messy feud before 2018.

April: Janet Hubert vs. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Cast

Did you think Janet Hubert was done lashing out at her former costars? Think again. When the former Aunt Viv spotted a fun photo of the cast's reunion in March on Alfonso Ribeiro's Instagram account, she wasn't exactly thrilled.

"I know the media hoe Alphonso Ribero has posted his so called reunion photo," she wrote on Facebook, reigniting the decades-long feud she's had with the original cast. "Folks keep telling me about it. He was always the ass wipe for Will. There will never be a true reunion of the Fresh Prince. I have no interest in seeing any of these people on that kind of level."

Unsurprisingly, the cast kept mum about her latest quotes.

April: Aretha Franklin vs. Dionne Warwick

Shortly after the "Respect" singer announced plans for retirement, she accused fellow soul diva Dionne Warwick of making "libelous" statements about her in April. Aretha Franklin notably covered Dionne's hits "Walk on By" and "I Say a Little Prayer" in the late '60s, but apparently the bad blood between them has been simmering for years. "At this point, it isn't about an apology, it's about libel," she said. "We've never been friends, and I don't think that Dionne has ever liked me."

The drama allegedly all started five years ago at Whitney Houston's funeral. Dionne was making a speech in front of the funeral-goers and introduced Aretha before realizing that she wasn't actually there. "'Ree's not here, but she is here," she said, using the 75-year-old's nickname. "She loves Whitney as if she were born to her. She is her godmother." Though Aretha insists her reason for not being there was genuine — she was resting her swollen feet so she'd be in good enough shape to follow through with a contractually obligated performance later that night at Radio City Music Hall — she was angry her name had been brought up at all, especially since she's not actually Whitney's godmother (a fact she claims Dionne is well aware of, since Dionne and Whitney are cousins).

Both singers attended this year's Tribeca Film Festival, where Dionne reportedly approached Aretha backstage. "She said, 'Give me a hug.' I said, 'Oh hell no. You couldn't be serious,'" Aretha recalled. Although no video footage of the incident exists (that we know of), we can only imagine it went something like the time Aretha famously denied Patti Labelle a hug at a performance at the White House.

May: Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift

If you're tired of reading about Katy Perry and Taylor Swift's feud, imagine how I feel writing about it. Unfortunately for all of us here at pleasemoveon.gov, this is one disagreement that just won't quit. By now, we all know the story of how the feud between them began, but for the uninitiated: Taylor told Rolling Stone in 2015 that another female pop star — Katy — maliciously stole dancers away from her for her own tour, so she wrote her revenge anthem "Bad Blood" about her.

Flash forward two years, to Summer 2017, when Katy was in the midst of releasing her new album, Witness. Certain moments of her ensuing press tour were, um, quirky, to put it lightly, but she certainly didn't hold back from discussing her issues with Taylor or dropping her own diss track, "Swish Swish." She said things like "Don't come for me" and "There are three sides of every story: one, two, and the truth," but the most important quote came during her Carpool Karaoke video with James Corden in May — "She started it, and it's time for her to finish it."

Flash forward again a few months later, when Taylor attempted to do just that on her own new album, Reputation. There are multiple references to Katy (as well as all the other people Taylor has grievances with), but let's hope that this was the last straw. After all, Katy told Thrive Global in June that she was over it. Me, too, Katy. Me, too.

June: Josh Peck vs. Drake Bell

Drake & Josh's Drake Bell and Josh Peck hit a rough patch in June when Josh neglected to invite his former costar to his Summer wedding. Drake and Josh had been friends for years after starring on their hit Nickelodeon show, but it was obvious to fans that they'd grown apart when Drake responded to his noninvite with a series of cryptic tweets.

"When you're not invited to the wedding the message is clear....," he wrote in a post that has since been deleted. "Loyalty is key," he continued in another deleted comment. "ALWAYS remember where you came from." A source later told Us Weekly that Josh was "really hurt" by the Twitter rant, especially since the two had reunited on an episode of his Fox comedy Grandfathered in early 2016.

By August, all was right in the world when the pair decided to bury the hatchet at the VMAs. Feel free to start using those "Hug me, brotha!" GIFs once again.

June: Kanye West vs. JAY-Z

Kanye West had clearly grown tired of beefing with Taylor Swift in October 2016 when he lashed out at his former BFF, JAY-Z, during a concert. He criticized JAY for not visiting him and wife Kim Kardashian after her Paris robbery and then got angry because their "kids have never even played together." JAY smartly didn't respond to Kanye's digs until June 2017, when he put all his feelings about the issue in song on his album 4:44. In addition to dropping some major revelations about everyone from Becky to Beyoncé, JAY clapped back at Kanye in not one but three tracks.

On the album's first song, "Kill Jay Z," JAY calls Kanye "insane," saying, "I know people backstab you, I feel bad too / But this 'f*ck everybody' attitude ain't natural / But you ain't the same, this ain't KumbaYe / But you got hurt because you did cool by 'Ye / You gave him 20 million without blinkin' / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*ck was he thinkin'? / 'F*ck wrong with everybody?' is what you sayin' / But if everybody's crazy, you're the one that's insane." He also referenced Kanye in "Caught Their Eyes" and "Bam."

By July, Kanye had exited JAY's music streaming company, Tidal, threatening to sue because it allegedly owes him "more than $3 million" in fees. A month later, JAY gave a rare interview to hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson, where the rapper revealed the reason for his feud with Kanye had to do with the fact he called out JAY's wife and children. As far as we know, the two still aren't on speaking terms, but TMZ reported in September that Kanye has reached out to make amends.

August: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift

I'm so exhausted, you guys. Recapping all of this drama has really taken it out of me. But you know what? Nothing is as soul-sucking as the never-ending beef between Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Taylor Swift. We all know the feud's humble beginnings: Kanye humiliated Taylor by stagecrashing her VMA acceptance speech in 2009 ("Imma let you finish . . . "), she wrote a song about him, they patched things up, they shared an infamous phone call, he wrote a song about her, she ripped him apart in her Grammys speech, Kim dropped some damning receipts on Snapchat. A tale as old as time, honestly.

By 2017, their issues were finally starting to fade. And then, in late August, Taylor released the first single off of her album Reputation, "Look What You Made Me Do." Naturally it's packed with pointed jabs at Kim and Kanye. The full album dropped in November, revealing three more songs aimed at the power couple: "I Did Something Bad," "Call It What You Want," and "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things."

There's no way to tell for sure if this is the end of the road for these three drama-loving celebrities, but it definitely seems like Kim and Kanye aren't fazed by Taylor's latest attempt at taking them down a peg. After all, they've got a baby on the way! The last thing they need are more childish antics in their lives.

September: Lady Gaga vs. Madonna

Now, this is a feud that's not strictly limited to 2017. In fact, Lady Gaga and Madonna have been trading jabs for the last five years following Madonna's comment about Gaga being "reductive." The feud reignited this year thanks to the Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two, in which Mother Monster laments their relationship (or lack thereof):

"The thing with me and Madonna, for example, is that I admired her always. I still admire her, no matter what she might think of me. No, I do. The only thing that really bothers me about her is that I'm Italian and from New York, you know? So like, if I got a problem with somebody, I'm going to f*cking tell you to your face. But no matter how much respect I have for her as a performer, I could never wrap my head around the fact that she wouldn't look me in the eye and tell me that I was 'reductive' or whatever . . . I saw it on f*cking TV. Telling me that you think I'm a piece of sh*t through the media, it's like a guy passing me a note through his friend. 'My buddy thinks you're hot.' . . . F*ck you. Where's your buddy, f*cking throwing me up against the wall and kissing me? I just want Madonna to f*cking to push me against the wall and kiss me and tell me I'm a piece of sh*t."

Madonna has yet to publicly address the documentary, but it's clear that there are still some unresolved issues between them.

September: Tyrese Gibson vs. Dwayne Johnson

Listen, as a diehard Fast & Furious fan, I have a very high threshold for messiness. But Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson's feud? That's a disaster that not even I can abide. It all started when Dwayne signed a mysterious business deal in September, which was later revealed to be a Fast & Furious spinoff for him and costar Jason Statham. This really pissed off Tyrese (who plays Roman in the franchise) for some reason, so he started leaving comments on Dwayne's Instagram warning him not to move forward with the franchise and accusing him of ignoring his texts.

In October, the release date for Fast 9 was pushed back because of the spinoff, eliciting another scathing Instagram post about The Rock from Tyrese. Dwayne claimed that his "goal from day 1 was to come in and create an exciting/fun character for the fans," and costar Vin Diesel hopped in to defend him as well. For the most part, it seemed like Dwayne was brushing off Tyrese's series of borderline-unstable Instagrams.

The feud fizzled out when Tyrese found himself embroiled in a high-profile custody battle. If only he'd taken the iconic Dom Toretto's sage advice to heart: "You don't turn your back on family, even when they do."

October: Kim Cattrall vs. Sarah Jessica Parker and Willie Garson

In a move more heartbreaking than Big ditching Carrie on their wedding day (she wore a bird on her head for you, man!), a major disagreement involving a new Sex and the City movie kicked off a big ol' feud between cast members Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Willie Garson in October. The drama began when SJP told Extra that she's "disappointed" another SATC movie wasn't going to happen even though a "beautiful, funny" script exists.

The Daily Mail hopped in the ring on the same day, reporting that costar Kim (Samantha) is to blame. She reportedly made "demands" and "ultimatums" to Warner Bros. that were the reason for the project not going forward. Kim passionately denied the rumors, tweeting, "The only 'DEMAND' I ever made was that I didn't want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016." Fans supported her statement, but Willie (Stanford Blatch) replied simply, "Huh?" before tweeting how sad he is for the cast and crew.

Kim put the final nail in the SATC 3 coffin by giving a scathing tell-all interview to Piers Morgan, where she called her costars "toxic" and said they'd never been friends. "This is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer."

While I totally agree with Kim that a third movie would be a mistake, I'm still not over this feud. Samantha and Carrie have been through so much, you know?
