Your Guide to Shawn Mendes's Tattoos, Including the Ones Designed by Fans

Shawn has a sparrow tattooed on his right hand. Sparrows are thought to signify a love for home for those who travel frequently. The art was done by Livia Tsang, a Toronto-based tattoo artist whom Shawn is a repeat customer with.

Shawn's guitar on his right arm was his very first tattoo. It's so much more than just a guitar, though, as it's a design Shawn really thought out. He told Ellen DeGeneres on her show back in 2016 that the guitar itself is made of the woods reflecting on the water and the neck of the guitar is a sound wave connecting to the Toronto skyline. But wait, there's more! The sound wave is actually his parents and sister saying, "I love you."

This tattoo is fan service at its finest. One of Shawn's fans tweeted a photo manipulation of Shawn tatted with a butterfly flower hybrid that made its way to Shawn himself. He loved the tattoo so much that he had Livia tattoo it on his arm in the exact spot the fan had imagined it.

Lest you think that's the only fan-driven tattoo Shawn has, let us tell you about his light bulb tattoo. Shawn asked his fans during his Illuminate days in 2017 for help coming up with a tattoo idea to commemorate the album and tour. He ended up getting a lightbulb on his right arm with blue flowers.

Shawn has three other tattoos that are rarely seen unless you get up close and personal with him. The first is a number 8 on his finger that he got with Hailey Baldwin before she became Hailey Bieber. The second is an elephant tattoo, also on a finger that he got with his mom. He told GQ that it took a lot of convincing for his mom to be on board but they eventually agreed on matching tiny elephants on their fingers. Lastly he has a teeny-tiny stick figure, presumably meditating on his right wrist.
