Brooke Shields Is Proud of Her 2 Daughters: They're "Beginning to Find Their Own Agencies"

Brooke Shields may be best known for her career as an actor and model, but her most meaningful gig of all is being a mom to her two daughters, Rowan and Grier Henchy. After marrying husband Chris Henchy on April 4, 2001, the couple expanded their family, and they haven't been shy about showing them off in the spotlight throughout the years.

From red carpet events to Fashion Week, Shields's favorite plus-ones (besides her husband) are her daughters, who are the spitting image of her. Though the former child star grew up on the harsh side of the limelight — often finding herself plagued with controversy — Shields tries to be more understanding of her daughters' lives, as she acknowledges that what she endured decades ago isn't what they experience today. "Unfortunately, my spotlight is not informative to their spotlight," she explained to People in 2022. "They have a spotlight while they're asleep, every bite of food they take is a spotlight. So I don't try to compare it because I will fail because it doesn't pertain."

Shields also joked to the outlet that her teenage daughters aren't fazed by her fame, saying, "I'm not a TikTok influencer, so evidently I don't exist." However, they do support their mom and her courageous decision to tell her life story in her two-part Hulu documentary, "Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields." Shields's youngest, Grier, stepped out with her for the movie's premiere on March 29, where the former model also took the time to applaud her kids' achievements on the red carpet.

"That last scene in the movie where they are confident and free. They're confident, they're being listened to, I'm proud of them speaking their mind," Shields told People. "They are young women who are already beginning to find their own agencies. It took me until practically today."

Rowan Francis Henchy

Shields and Chris's first and oldest daughter, Rowan, was born on May 15, 2003. Per People, she grew up in New York City and maintains a close relationship with her famous mom. When she's able to, she accompanies Shields to big events like the 2022 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner and The Hollywood Reporter's 2022 Most Powerful People in Media party in NYC.

Rowan graduated from high school in June 2021 before she went off to attend Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, that August. She also got matching ladybug tattoos with her mom before then. A few months later, during an appearance on "Live With Kelly and Ryan," Shields shared that sending her oldest off to college was the "worst thing I've ever experienced in my life." "You want them to be happy, but you really don't want them to be happy," she joked.

In April 2022, Shields also told "People (the TV Show!)" that she'll likely never get used to Rowan leaving the nest and being out on her own. "She's really living her life, she's enjoying college, she's just really blossoming and growing," she said. "I listen to the way [my daughters] talk to each other and their friends and the things they're discussing, and you think, 'Wow, she's really her own person and I've done my best in my job and I'm going to try to get out of her way.'"

Grier Hammond Henchy

Grier, Shields and Chris's second and youngest daughter, was born in Los Angeles on April 18, 2006 — the same day Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise (also in the same hospital), according to People. Much like her older sister, Grier is also Shields's go-to plus-one for Hollywood events, especially during the annual Fashion Weeks.

In fact, Grier shares her mom's love for fashion, as she's occasionally seen sporting a stylish designer outfit, per Shields's Instagram page. She's also following in her famous mother's modeling footsteps, as the two posed together in a Victoria's Secret Mother's Day campaign in 2022.

"It was very emotional, and it was as if I was watching my baby girl grow up right in front of my eyes," Shields previously told InStyle. "It was truly a proud moment to be able to model alongside my daughter for such a meaningful campaign. To be amongst such dynamic women with such beautiful mother-daughter narratives is so indicative of Victoria's Secret's dedication to celebrating all women."
