In 2017, the internet became a tad bit obsessed with Dawson's relationship with comedian Eric André after they both made their relationship public by sharing a Valentine's Day post about one another on social media, per W Magazine. In a 2017 interview on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Dawson said she met André at the Democratic National Convention in July 2016, and the two started dating shortly after. Though the pair were mostly private during their relationship, the "Clerks II" actor did praise André for taking care of her after she had to undergo emergency surgery in September 2016 for a ruptured ovarian cyst. "He took care of me in an adult diaper. That's real love," Dawson told Colbert.
Despite appearing solid on the outside, the couple broke up in November 2017, with a source telling Us Weekly, "It just ran its course. He was never something serious."
