Arguably, Gomez and Rodrigo have a lot in common. They both started off as actors on Disney Channel (Gomez starred in "Wizards of Waverly Place," while Rodrigo had the lead role in "Bizaardvark") and subsequently launched successful music careers. Though it's unknown when the two first connected, Rodrigo revealed in a 2021 interview with Variety that the "Single Soon" singer gave her some solid advice as she was breaking into the music scene. "I met Selena, and she was so kind. She talked to me a lot about prioritizing mental health, which I think is really important in this industry. All of us were in the limelight very young . . . That can be taxing on your psyche and can bring about all these weird issues."
In August 2022, Gomez shared a TikTok of her and younger sister Gracie singing along to Rodrigo's "Drivers License" during a concert for the singer's "Sour" tour. That same month, Rodrigo attended Gomez's 30th birthday party with Apatow and Eilish.
