Serena Williams Announces Birth of Her Second Child: "Welcome My Beautiful Angel"

Serena Williams is a mother of two! On Aug. 22, the 41-year-old tennis champion announced on TikTok that she and husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Adira River Ohanian. Alongside a video of Williams cradling the newborn while sitting next to Ohanian and their 5-year-old daughter, Olympia, Williams wrote, "Welcome my beautiful angel." The clip also features photos of the family of four set to Bazzi's hit "Beautiful."

Ohanian, 40, also celebrated the arrival of his daughter on Instagram, writing, "Welcome, Adira River Ohanian. I'm grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you've now given me another incomparable gift — you're the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter 🙏 I'll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister."

Williams revealed her second pregnancy on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet, and shortly after, her husband posted photos of their looks on Instagram, writing, "Mama (@serenawilliams) & Papa love this parenting-thing, so we're back at it 😁 and @olympiaohanian is gonna be the best Big Sister—she's been asking & praying for this for a minute."

Leading up to her child's birth, Williams shared a few photos of her baby bump on social media. In one Instagram post, she wrote of her pregnancy that she planned on "being stylish this time around."

The recently retired athlete opened up about her motherhood journey to Vogue back in September. "Earlier in my career, I never thought about having kids," she said. "There were times when I've wondered if I should ever bring kids into this world, with all its problems. I was never that confident or comfortable around babies or children, and I figured that if I ever did have a baby, I would have people taking care of it 24/7." However, she said she found herself being an "incredibly hands-on mother" with Olympia.

"In five years," Williams said, "Olympia has only spent one 24-hour period away from me. . . . The fact is that nothing is a sacrifice for me when it comes to Olympia."
