In 2018, Maisie helped found Shethority, along with fellow Arrowverse actresses Caity Lotz and Candice Patton. Shethority is an online collective focused on building a community that challenges itself, empowers others, and works to reclaim the female experience. "Shethority is a place of diversity in terms of sexuality as well as ethnicity; diversity all around," Maisie explained in a previous interview.

Maisie joined Legend of Tomorrow in 2016 as Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, a member of the Justice Society of America during the 1940s. Eventually, her character returned to her original time, with Maisie taking on the role of fugitive shapeshifter Charlie in 2018. Her mother, Joy Richardson, also appeared in the show as Amaya Jiwe's ancestor. Maisie exited the show in 2020 in order to pursue other projects.
