The 13 Reasons Why Characters All Use Instagram Accounts, If You're in the Mood For Detective Work

The characters from 13 Reasons Why may not be real, but their Instagram accounts sure are. The show's second season is quickly approaching, but if you're on the edge of your seat, you can scan these accounts for all sorts of clues. First it started with Hannah Baker's Instagram last year, and now we're noticing characters like Alex Standall and Jessica Davis have public profiles, with memories going back to the first season. Characters who remain on private? Clay Jensen, Justin Foley, Courtney Crimsen, Bryce Walker, Ryan Shaver, Tony Padilla, Tyler Down, and Montgomery de la Cruz. While these profiles remain private, you can piece the puzzle together further by catching their comments on one another's profiles.

We've rounded up the public profiles ahead, along with the clues we've been able to identify so far. There's no telling whose profile will open up next, but rest assured, we'll be ready and waiting.

Hannah Baker

Hannah's profile was the first to go public last year. While her profile definitely lends itself to season one teases, you can see the progression of Hannah's high school life: her friendship with Jessica and Alex, her relationship with Justin, and her feelings of intense loneliness and depression. It's a reminder of everything her death and tapes set into motion, and her classmates' profiles detail what follows.

Alex Standall

If you're looking for season two secrets, Alex's profile is a gold mine. At the end of season one, fans are left contemplating Alex's fate after it's revealed that he shot himself in the head. Well, according to his Instagram, he's back and recovering. His profile features shots of a hospital curtain, prescription medication, and a new hairstyle. While we don't know what Alex's full condition is, judging by Instagram Stories and trips to the waterfront with Jessica, he's able to talk and walk with the help of his "new wheels" — a cane.

Jessica Davis

Jessica's profile may be full of pastel filters and encouraging quotes, but underneath you can definitely sense the struggle of a girl spiraling. At the end of season one, Jessica is confronted with the reality of being raped, and her Instagram suggests that she's doing "the best she can." Her page showcases snaps from the beginning of her friendship with Hannah to the night of the tragic back-to-school party and beyond, when she finds herself struggling to get out of bed and requests someone join her at Monet's for coffee. Seems like there's someone who's used to filling that role. She and Alex have also traded comments back and forth on their profiles . . . will season two reunite this pair as more than friends?

Marcus Cole

Marcus's Instagram profile is evidence enough that he's still all about his public image. While his account mostly features photos of school posters and events, thanks to his posts, we know that Liberty High built a new baseball field (something that excites Zach and Bryce in the comments). Marcus also announces he's going to Harvard and helping his father with a political campaign. Wonder if Hannah's parents' lawsuit will tarnish his finely tuned public perception.

Zach Dempsey

Viewers may remember Zach as the athlete who stole Hannah's notes, robbing her of much-needed comfort. His Instagram features a few cryptic photos, including one of a baseball catcher's uniform, with the caption "What happened to leaving the game on the field?" This could be a callback to the horrific death of star baseball player Jeff Atkins in season one or perhaps a tease to a new character in season two: Rick, Liberty High's baseball coach.

Sheri Holland

Sheri's Instagram profile sheds a little light on her efforts to give back following her actions that likely caused the death of fellow classmate Jeff. She shares a photo serving food, with the caption "It's a start." This could be in reference to volunteer work that Sheri participated in to alleviate the feeling of guilt from Jeff's death or perhaps something more, since she turned herself in at the end of season one. She also posted a snap from Clay's bedroom and follows in Marcus's footsteps with another angle of Walker Field. Something tells us there's more than meets the eye when it comes to this new Liberty High addition.
