6 Award Season Contenders That Are Already Available on Netflix

As award season gears up for the next few months, there are a flood of movies being released and brought back to the forefront as critics and fans scramble to predict who the big nominees and winners will be. The Golden Globe nominations were a pretty good indicator of which way the wind is blowing: a diverse combination of critically acclaimed blockbusters like Black Panther, Crazy Rich Asians, and A Star Is Born, along with lesser-known titles that are suddenly the center of attention and a few movies that aren't even in theaters yet.

Marvel's blockbuster just might be the one that finally cracks the award show vibranium ceiling. With a nomination for best picture (drama) at the Golden Globes, Black Panther looks to be on track for serious contention this award season, even in major categories.

Roma
From awards-show-favorite director Alfonso Cuaron comes Roma, a tale set in 1970s-era Mexico about families of different social classes. The movie has been named the best film of the year by several organizations and is currently one of the favorites for the Oscars. It will be available on Netflix on Dec. 14.

Seeing Allred
Among the top documentaries of the year is Seeing Allred, which goes behind the scenes with powerhouse attorney and activist Gloria Allred. With a rare 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie could be a real contender in documentary categories this season.
