Southpaw Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Will Break Your Heart in Kurt Sutter's New Movie

Jake Gyllenhaal has gone through a tremendous physical transformation for his role in Southpaw, which you may have noticed when the first picture of him in character was released last year. Now a new trailer is here for the boxing drama, written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and costarring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Rita Ora, and Forest Whitaker. Gyllenhaal plays Billy "The Great" Hope, a boxing champion with a temper. His wife (Rachel McAdams) persuades him to walk away from his dangerous career, but just as he's getting out, tragedy strikes, and she gets killed. He falls apart, losing custody of his daughter and spiraling out of control. The trailer alone is so intense — due in part to Eminem's new track "Phenomenal." The movie opens on July 31; until then, check out the trailers below!
