We Now Know Exactly When Black Panther’s Sequel Is Being Released

Get ready to go back to Wakanda because we have a release date for Black Panther 2! Following the success of King T'Challa's saga in 2018's Black Panther — and his disappearance and reappearance in the past two Avengers movies — fans have been aching for more information about his return to the big screen. During San Diego Comic-Con in July, Marvel Studios unveiled it's plan for Phase Four, which starts with Black Widow's prequel — dropping May 1, 2020 — and ends with Thor: Love and Thunder — dropping Nov. 5, 2021.

So where does Black Panther 2 fall within that timeline? Well . . . nowhere, actually. The second installment surrounding the Wakandan king won't be included in the fourth phase. Instead, it'll be in the fifth juncture (presumably with the already confirmed Avengers 5.) During Disney's D23 convention on Aug. 24, director Ryan Coogler — who is returning to helm the sequel — announced that Black Panther, Shuri, the Dora Milaje, and more of our favorite characters will return to the big screen on May 6, 2022. Sadly, that means we have to wait a couple of years. But if it's anything like the first, we know it's going to be amazing and make a significant impact.
