Johnny Depp Appears as a Moon Person During the VMAs

Johnny Depp made a surprising appearance at the VMAs on Aug. 28 just months after his highly publicized defamation trial. The actor popped up as a moon person on live television during the 2022 MTV VMAs. In the beginning of the show, an astronaut with Depp's face peeking through the helmet appeared on stage and said, "And you know what? I needed the work." Depp shared a similar video on his Instagram, where he says, "I just want you guys to know that I'm available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need."

The appearance comes three months after his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. The jury found Heard liable for defamation, and Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. During that same verdict, jurors found Depp liable for defamation for one statement, and Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Depp will play the controversial King Louis XV in a French period drama titled "Jeanne du Barry." It's his first major movie role in three years and set to hit theaters in 2023. He is also set to direct "Modigliani," a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, which will be his first directorial project in 25 years.
