While Lil Nas X may "do a lot of planned sh*t," as he tweeted shortly after performing on Saturday Night Live on May 22, ripping his pants on live television was not one of those plans. On Monday, the 22-year-old singer discussed his wardrobe malfunction during his now-viral performance while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I was pretty much going down the pole, you know, doing my sexy drop down, and boom, I feel air. . . . I was like, 'Just please don't be on TV already.' You know? And SNL is actually live," Lil Nas X shared with the host.

It wasn't enough that his pants split, Lil Nas X also had to deal with dancer interference. "You know what the worst part is? At the end of the performance, the dancers were supposed to touch me and tug on me," he added. "And they were tugging on the pants. I was like, 'Please, God, no.'" The dancers seen in the SNL performance were last-minute additions as one of the original dancers tested positive for COVID a day earlier, resulting in the entire crew's replacement.

Lil Nas X had one final thing to say to those who thought it was a publicity stunt: "I would never rip my pants in public on purpose." If you want to know what his SNL performance was supposed to look like, you can see the rehearsal footage in the video above.
