12 Stars Who Were in Tons of Movies This Year

Scarlett Johansson was in several movies in 2014, big and small. Her starring role in this Marvel sequel was obviously of the gargantuan variety.

It wasn't as big as Captain America, but Johansson kicked just as much butt in this action thriller, which came out in late Summer.

In her continuing quest as a big-screen badass, Johansson played an alien adept at seducing humans.

She put the guns down but stayed feisty as a restaurant hostess in this indie for food-lovers opposite her Iron Man 2 costars Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.

Chris Pine kicked off his big year by portraying movie hero Jack Ryan, showing off his supersexy superspy skills.

Pine got the rare opportunity to show off his comedic chops in this sequel.

Then, he put a big bow on 2014 with his delightful appearance (he sings!) as Prince Charming in this Disney musical.

Emma Stone's year on the big screen kicked off with this blockbuster sequel, in which her character suffers an unfortunate fate.

In lighter fare, she teamed up with Woody Allen to charm in this '20s-set comedy.

Woodley also flexed her arthouse muscle with this indie drama.

Then she made us all cry as Hazel as one-half of a cancer-stricken pair of teenagers in love, along with her Divergent costar Ansel Elgort.

Speaking of Elgort, the young actor made a big splash with a few breakout roles, like as Woodley's brother, Caleb.

And as Woodley's supersweet boyfriend Gus in his biggest breakout role.

Finally, he was also in Jason Reitman's ensemble drama toward the end of the year.

Stewart's year mostly consisted of indies, albeit critically acclaimed ones. She earned praise for her role as a morally conflicted soldier at Guantanamo Bay in this movie that premiered at Sundance.

At another film festival — Cannes — Stewart impressed as a seductive assistant to Juliette Binoche's character.

This year-ending film may end up getting the most buzz of Stewart's — her costar Julianne Moore is getting nominations for her role as a mother suffering from Alzheimer's (Stewart plays her daughter).

The nation's acting treasure first popped up in this January drama, for which she was nominated for several awards.

Then she had an important role in this adaptation of the YA classic.

Now she's getting award buzz again for her role as Witch in this musical.

We don't know where she found the time, but Streep also starred in this Western that premiered at Cannes.

Reese Witherspoon's big year started with this true tale of the West Memphis Three, which was released this year after debuting at film festivals in 2013.

Later in the year, Witherspoon starred in another critically acclaimed film as a woman who takes in Sudanese refugees.

She's gotten perhaps the most acclaim (and nominations) for her starring role as Cheryl Strayed in Wild, about the author's real-life soul-searching hike.

The actress rounded out the year in Paul Thomas Anderson's comedy, in which she reunited with her Walk the Line costar Joaquin Phoenix.

Garner had a lot of roles this year, like in this football drama opposite Kevin Costner.

Garner went ultra-family-friendly with this Disney comedy based on the iconic children's book.

Garner played another mother in this drama, but one whose protectiveness drives a wedge between her and her daughter.

Adam Driver was definitely one of the busiest actors in 2014 — and we have to include his small-screen stint as Adam in the third season of Girls.

He gave us his comedic side in this romantic comedy as Daniel Radcliffe's BFF.

Then he popped up as one of many famous siblings (including Tina Fey and Jason Bateman) in this dramedy.

Driver also played a photographer in this drama, and it wasn't even his last credit of 2014; he also starred in Italian film festival thriller Hungry Hearts and the TIFF hit While We're Young, which will come out in 2015.

Knightley reemerged onto the big screen in a big way after being absent in 2013. She started in this January release as the wife of Jack Ryan (Chris Pine).

We got to see Knightley's musical chops in this romantic drama.

And we got to see her as an immature adult in this indie.
