Mourning the Andrew Garfield Era of Spider-Man
With the new Captain America: Civil War trailer explicitly revealing new Spider-Man Tom Holland, it's official: the Andrew Garfield era as Spider-Man is over. We first heard the announcement from Marvel in early 2015 that Spider-Man will be integrated into the Marvel universe of The Avengers — precipitating the conclusion that Garfield had slung his last web. While we're certain that Garfield will go on to bigger and better things with his career, that doesn't stop us from wanting to mourn the Garfield era of Spider-Man. While the two films in the rebooted franchise may not have pleased everyone, it was through no fault of Garfield's — a capable, sensitive performer with loads of charm. Let's remember why he was so good at Peter Parker and his superhero self as we say goodbye.
He Actually Looked Like a High School Student in the First One
Despite being in his late 20s.
He's So Perfect at That Cute/Awkward Thing
He Looks Great in Glasses
An important trait when you play a superhero and his high-school-age alter ego.
He Translates Peter's Transition Into Spider-Man Well
He Could Take It to Silly Levels
Not just "Whoa! Webs come out of my wrist!"
He's Good at the Action, Too
And Does All the Emotional Stuff Well
He's a Master of Shy Charisma
And Totally Believable Innocence
Look at that little face!
He's a Championship Lip-Biter
And now we get into how attractive Garfield is . . .
He Makes Expressive Faces Like This
He Appears to Be an Incredible Kisser
And Looks Amazing With His Shirt Off
He Even Looks Great Banged Up
He's Good at the Romance Stuff
He Could Mix Action and Comedy
He's Great at Comedy, Period
With the Best Delivery
Seriously, He Can Handle the One-Liners
Did We Mention His Smile?
He Has That Innocent Smile . . .
This Sweet Smile . . . .
And This Adorable-Beyond-Words Smile . . .
Smiling's his favorite.
And Last but Not Least: Garfield Himself Is So Passionate About the Character
Remember when he crashed his own Comic-Con panel to give an impassioned speech about how much he loves Spider-Man? Wait, has anyone told him yet?!
