3 Reasons Game of Thrones Is About to Reveal Jon Snow's Real Parents

Season six of Game of Thrones is off to a crazy start. People have been viciously ripped apart by dogs, Tyrion is befriending the dragons (maybe because he's a secret Targaryen), and Jon Snow? Well, he's alive again. While theories have been swirling about how he would return from the dead ever since the shocking season finale, we're focused on another theory: who are Jon Snow's real parents? Given the hints below, we have reason to believe that not only is one particular theory true, but that we're going to see it confirmed on the show very soon.

Jon's Story Is Front and Center This Season

Season six of Game of Thrones may as well be subtitled "All About Jon Snow," because his story is by far the biggest of the season — so far. After dying a painful death, Jon is resurrected by Melisandre on the second episode of the season. (There's also a theory that Melisandre didn't have anything to do with it.) We'll have to wait to see how he copes with being reanimated, but since interest in Jon Snow has never been higher, it would be a perfect time to delve into his past! This is especially true if his true parents have something to do with how he is brought back to life (Targaryen blood?) or what his future holds now that he's alive again, and that his Watch has ended.

We Now Have the Ability to Look Back on Past Events

While the creators of Game of Thrones have purposely avoided flashbacks, there's a new way to look back into history: through Bran's eyes. The Three-Eyed Raven is helping Bran hone his greenseeing abilities, and not only does he travel back to see his father as a young child, this past week he watches the battle at the Tower of Joy. If you're at all versed in the A Song of Ice and Fire books, you know the signifance of that place: it's where Ned finds his dying sister, Lyanna. It's a safe bet we'll get to see what happens when Ned runs into the Tower soon!

We've Met Lyanna

Up until now, we haven't heard much about Ned's sister on the show. As Bran notes on the episode, Ned rarely spoke about her. What we do know is that she is widely speculated to be Jon Snow's real mother, while Rhaegar Targaryen would be his father. The theory is known as "R + L = J," and it makes a lot of sense. So, why introduce Lyanna now? Could it be because the creators are finally going to reveal that she is Jon Snow's mother?

Here's What's Coming Up Next

Unfortunately, the preview for next week's episode doesn't show anything relating to the Young Ned/Tower of Joy flashbacks, but that doesn't mean we won't get to see it in the future. We're betting that Game of Thrones is about to put this theory on blast.
