35 Actors Who Would Be Magical in Disney's Live-Action Version of The Little Mermaid
Disney is turning The Little Mermaid into a live-action feature, and it goes without saying that we're pretty pumped. Not only is the revival going to be a musical, but Lin-Manuel Miranda has already signed on to write and produce alongside Alan Menken! The rest of the film's details may still be in the early stages, but that hasn't stopped us from dreaming up the perfect cast. While Disney's live concert at the Hollywood Bowl definitely gave us some ideas, there are tons of other actors who would blow it out of the water, pun intended.
Zendaya as Ariel
Let's be honest, Zendaya is practically a Disney princess IRL. She's gorgeous, super talented, and she is also super inspiring to her younger fans.
Ariana Grande as Ariel
Based on all her celebrity impersonations, we already know Grande has the pipes. Maybe she would actually let her hair down to play the iconic mermaid?
Sabrina Carpenter as Ariel
Carpenter is yet another Disney Channel starlet who'd make a perfect Ariel. Her raspy voice would be an interesting twist for the iconic role.
Hailee Steinfeld as Ariel
Steinfeld totally has the famous mermaid's upbeat personality. Yes, she can she sing, but she's also an Oscar-nominated actress. We're sure she would kill it.
Darren Criss as Prince Eric
Criss has already proven himself to be a worthy Prince Eric when he appeared in movie's live performance at The Hollywood Bowl. Plus, he's a big Disney fan, so you know he would take the role seriously.
John Boyega as Prince Eric
The Star Wars star is the perfect mix of cute and sexy. We definitely wouldn't be able to pull ourselves away from the screen if he played Prince Eric.
Zac Efron as Prince Eric
He already has experience working with Disney, and he also has Prince Eric's gorgeous baby blue eyes.
Corbin Bleu as Prince Eric
Bleu's voice is just as dreamy as his face. Even though Prince Eric doesn't have any singing roles in the original animated movie, we're sure Lin-Manuel Miranda could put something in just for him.
Joe Jonas as Prince Eric
Joe is best known for his singing career with the Jonas Brothers and DNCE, but he's dipped his toes into acting before. Not to mention, he has a striking resemblance to the charming Disney prince.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula
McCarthy may be super sweet, but we could totally see her rocking the role of the evil Ursula. Casting directors clearly agree, because McCarthy is currently one of the front-runners for the role.
Rebel Wilson as Ursula
Wilson already crushed it as Ursula during the Hollywood Bowl performance. No doubt she would do it again on the big screen.
Yvette Nicole Brown as Ursula
Brown already knows a thing or two about playing Ursula. She voiced the sea witch on season three of Once Upon a Time.
Leslie Jones as Ursula
Can you only imagine? Just like Ursula, Jones has proven time and time again that she has one wicked sense of humor.
Harvey Fierstein as Ursula
It seems like Fierstein already has Menken's vote for the role. During an interview with the UK's Gay Times he admitted that he'd "kill" to have the Tony-winner play Ursula. It certainly wouldn't be his first time playing the opposite sex. He is well-known for playing Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway and NBC's recent live production.
Idris Elba as King Triton
Seriously, who wouldn't want to see Elba go shirtless for this role?
Dwayne Johnson as King Triton
Johnson could certainly pull off the stern but lovable father in the film.
Jason Momoa as King Triton
I mean, he's already playing Aquaman. He could easily transition from one role to the next.
Norm Lewis as King Triton
He gave an amazing performance at the Hollywood Bowl, and he actually played King Triton on Broadway!
Tituss Burgess as Sebastian
Burgess has already proven that he is the perfect Sebastian. Not only did he blow it out of the water with his performance at the Hollywood Bowl, but he actually originated the character on Broadway.
Wayne Brady as Sebastian
If his time on Whose Line Is It Anyway? taught us anything, it's that Brady knows a thing or two about comedy. We could totally see him working with some funny voices for the part.
Lin-Manuel Miranda as Sebastian
He's already writing the music for the film, so why not take it one step further by starring it in?
Jacob Tremblay as Flounder
We really just want to see more of Tremblay's adorable face on our screen. How cute would he be as Ariel's fish friend?
Miles Brown as Flounder
Brown constantly steals the scene on Black-ish. We have full faith that he would do the same on the big screen.
Gaten Matarazzo as Flounder
The world fell in love with him on Stranger Things, and we would love him even more if he were to star as Flounder.
Alan Cumming as Grimsby
Aside from his general quirkiness, Cumming is certainly no stranger to the theater community. This role would be a breeze for the actor.
Kumail Nanjiani as Grimsby
No doubt, Nanjiani would totally steal the spotlight with this role. He could probably write in a few of his own funny lines for the part.
David Tennant as Grimsby
If his role in Doctor Who taught us anything, it's that Tennant would be adorably cooky as this character.
Bobby Moynihan as Scuttle
We only imagine that his take on the role would be something like a PG-rated version of his Saturday Night Live character Drunk Uncle.
Bill Murray as Scuttle
Murray would do a great job imitating Scuttle's crazy voices and zany personality.
Chris Rock as Scuttle
Rock would definitely bring some amazing energy to this wacky seagull. Plus, he's a seasoned voice actor, so if Scuttle ends up being CGI, he's a great fit.
Fred Armisen as Scuttle
Armisen is a jack of all trades when it comes to comedy; he could probably fly with anything the producers throw his way.
John Stamos as Chef Louis
Stamos was definitely a standout star when he took on the role at the Hollywood Bowl. We would love to see him play the character in a feature film.
Jason Alexander as Chef Louis
The legendary comedian would totally nail the chef's hot-tempered nature. He also has a stage background, so he could easily hit all the notes in "Les Poissons."
Kenan Thompson as Chef Louis
Who else would get major flashbacks of Thompson's All That character Pierre Escargot if he were to get the role?
Sacha Baron Cohen as Chef Louis
Cohen is already a master at accents — he could easily pull off playing a French cook.
