The Pfeffermans are a dysfunctional Los Angeles family whose lives are humorously turned upside-down when their patriarch comes out as transgender. Formally Morton Pfefferman, Maura (played by the talented Jeffrey Tambor) has to navigate her new world and adapt to living life as a woman. Meanwhile, her children and ex-wife must adjust to her transition, as well as deal with their own drama, including perpetual unemployment, a failed marriage, and a pathological inability to form a meaningful romantic relationship. Before you know it, Maura isn't the only Pfefferman spilling secrets. Transparent was the first Amazon series to receive a major award, as well as the first ever show from a streaming service to win a Golden Globe for best series.
