28 Romantic Comedies You Need to Have on Your Radar in 2018

This sequel to 2017's fan-favorite A Christmas Prince will pick up where the story of Prince Richard and Amber (reprised by Ben Lamb and Rose McIver) left off, following the couple as they prepare to tie the knot.

The comedy follows Jennifer Lopez's Maya, who is struggling to climb the corporate ladder at the big box store where she works because of her lack of an Ivy League degree. When her close friend and coworker (Leah Remini) gets her son to "Cinderella" Maya's résumé and internet presence — think: photos of her with the Obamas, climbing Kilimanjaro, a degree from Wharton — she suddenly finds herself with a fancy new job on Madison Avenue. Wondering when the romance comes in? Well, her husband is played by the charming Milo Ventimiglia, and judging from the trailer, he's Maya's sweetest supporter.

Another Christmastime rom-com, this movie stars Vanessa Hudgens in the dual roles of a baker and a duchess who discover their uncanny resemblance and hatch a plan to swap places (because that plot has definitely never been done before).

Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) stars as a physics genius trying to repair his relationship with his girlfriend Debbie (Game of Thrones's Sophie Turner) after she dumps him. This Christmas romantic comedy stars The Vampire Diaries alum Kat Graham as an aspiring photographer who inherits an ancient Advent calendar from her grandmother that may actually be able to tell her future — as well as guide her toward a new love interest (played by Quincy Brown).

To be fair, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's remake of this timeless story looks heavy on romance, very light on comedy. Then again, since the first trailer — which teases the emotional relationship between Cooper's has-been rock icon and Gaga's ridiculously talented young singer — had us sobbing by the end of it, we felt inclined to include on this list.

If you have a craving for rom-coms that feel like they were made in 2005, then say hello to Little Italy. Emma Roberts stars as Nikki, an up-and-coming chef returning home to her family's pizzeria in NYC, which has developed a fierce rivalry with the pizzeria nearby, which happens to be owned by Hayden Christensen's family. Some Romeo and Juliet vibes quickly take over as Nikki falls for Christensen's character, and the pair have to hide their relationship from their families.

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves reunite in the charming romantic comedy Destination Wedding, which is about two outsiders at a wedding who fall for each other.

Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, and Chris O'Dowd star in this sweet adaptation of the 2009 novel by Nick Hornby. Byrne stars as a woman fed up with her longtime boyfriend (O'Dowd), who happens to be obsessed with mysterious American rockstar Tucker Crowe (Hawke). When she ends up having a chance online encounter with the musician, their ensuing pen pal relationship leads to . . . well, I won't spoil it for you.

Netflix's adaptation of Jenny Han's bestselling novel, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, follows Lara Jean (Lana Condor) as she lives out all of our worst high school nightmares when the secret letters she wrote to five of her former crushes get distributed to her classmates.

Based on Kevin Kwan's novel of the same name, Crazy Rich Asians tells a fish-out-of-water tale of when an American-born Chinese woman, Rachel, is introduced to the crazy rich lifestyle of her boyfriend Nick in Singapore. But at heart, it's about Nick and Rachel's relationship and whether their love can weather their differences.

In the aftermath of World War II, a writer (Lily James) unexpectedly bonds with the people of Guernsey Island and decides to make them the subject of her next novel. Game of Thrones heartthrob Michiel Huisman stars alongside James in this period film, which has been adapted from Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows's 2008 novel of the same name.

Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer star in this film about a woman who gets left at the altar and then accidentally ends up on a honeymoon cruise with her estranged father. Naturally, she also strikes up a romance with a bartender working on the boat (Seth Rogen), so you can look forward to just as many raunchy jokes as heartwarming family moments.

We're going back to Greece in the prequel to Mamma Mia!, in which Lily James is playing young Donna during that fateful Summer where she meets the three (yes, three) loves of her life.

Overboard has gotten the reboot treatment! Instead of following a spoiled heiress who gets amnesia and ends up falling for a rugged carpenter like in the 1987 original, the new film will see Anna Faris as Kate, a working-class mom who turns the tables on a wealthy, immature playboy (Eugenio Derbez) when he loses his memory.

Love, Simon is the adaptation of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, a coming-of-age tale about 17-year-old Simon as he wrestles with coming out on his own terms. Happily, romance ensues for young Simon.

Girls' Zosia Mamet stars in this indie romantic comedy about a struggling writer who finds the perfect Brooklyn apartment . . . but her ex lives downstairs. Of course, he's cute, sweet, nearby (never mind that he's dating someone else, played by Sarah Ramos), so an awkward real estate situation might actually end up working out for these two.

We know the Fifty Shades saga was intended to be sexy, sensuous romantic drama, and indeed, the story is full of drama, but when Fifty Shades Darker came out, it was much lighter and much funnier, and we've been thinking of these movies as romantic comedies ever since. After all, laughing is the only way to get through one more character saying "Laters, baby." Christian and Ana say their vows and give their final bow in Fifty Shades Freed which has plenty of giggle-worthy moments.

This Netflix original stars Adam DeVine as an unlucky-in-love dude who's fallen for his soon-to-be-married BFF (Alexandria Daddario). She obviously only sees him as a friend . . . until he discovers a time machine that allows him to travel back to the first night they met over and over again, in attempts to woo her from the start.
