Plenty of your favorite teen-movie tropes are just as important in "A Cinderella Story" as they are in "Mean Girls." Sam is your classic unpopular nerd, but with an added layer of trauma: her beloved father died years ago, leaving her at the mercy of her wicked, tacky stepmother and stepsisters. As she tries to keep her head down, work in what used to be her father's diner, and achieve academically so that she can get a scholarship and escape to Princeton, she strikes up an online friendship with a mystery guy. Little does she (or anyone) know that he's actually Austin, the most popular guy at school and someone who wouldn't look twice at Sam — or would he?
