Here's Every Single Death That Happens in Avengers: Infinity War

Warning: this post contains MASSIVE, IRREVOCABLE spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

Don't worry. Captain America is safe. We had you scared, right? While Cap and Iron Man both inexplicably survive Avengers: Infinity War — Chris Evans hinted at a departure, and everyone was sure Iron Man would die — the same cannot be said for these 16 (yes, 16!) heroes. Before you freak out, we have some sort of good news. Yes, four of these deaths are pretty much done deals. But the other 12 happen due to some great cosmic event that we're sure will somehow be reversed in a future film. At least, that's what we hope. In the meantime, though, here are the characters in Infinity War that bite the dust, so to speak.

01
Heimdall
Disney

Heimdall

Heimdall (Idris Elba) is the first to die, and he goes in the first scene of Infinity War. As punishment for teleporting Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) back to Earth, Thanos impales him.

02
Loki
Disney

Loki

Loki's tragic death also happens in the opening sequence of the film. After Thanos gets ahold of the Tesseract (which holds the Infinity Stone known as the Space Stone), Loki swears his loyalty. Except he doesn't swear his loyalty at all. He secretly pulls out a blade in an attempt to kill Thanos, and Thanos responds by strangling him to death. He also says something like, "No more resurrections." Harsh.

03
Gamora
Disney

Gamora

This one's pretty heartbreaking. As we learn in Infinity War, Gamora is more or less Thanos's adopted daughter. In order to get the Soul Stone, Thanos must sacrifice that which he loves most. A soul for a soul. So he throws Gamora to her death off a steep, tall cliff.

04
Vision
Disney

Vision

This poor guy dies twice in Infinity War. The first time, as an attempt to stop Thanos, Scarlet Witch obliterates the Mind Stone (which is embedded in Vision's forehead) with her magical powers. Thanos uses the Time Stone to rewind time, undo Scarlet Witch's magic, and bring Vision back to life. Then he wrenches the Mind Stone from his forehead, killing him again.

05
Bucky Barnes
Disney

Bucky Barnes

While the previous four deaths seem pretty irreversible, the remaining deaths are a bit more up in the air. As you know, once Thanos gets all six Infinity Stones, he can basically destroy half the universe with the snap of his fingers. Literally. Once he steals the final stone, Vision's Mind Stone, he does exactly that. With this snap, half of the population of the entire universe simply ceases to exist. And so we watch as many of our beloved characters turn to dust. Bucky is the first to leave after the snap.

06
Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff
Disney

Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff

Still crying over the death of her boyfriend, Vision, Wanda evaporates to dust from Thanos's snap.

07
Black Panther, aka King T'Challa
Disney

Black Panther, aka King T'Challa

Okoye watches, bewildered, as the snap takes Black Panther in the fields of Wakanda.

08
Falcon, aka Sam Wilson
Disney

Falcon, aka Sam Wilson

Falcon also evaporates because of the snap.

09
Groot
Disney

Groot

Poor Rocket. He watches Groot blow away as a result of the snap.

10
Drax
Disney

Drax

Meanwhile, back on Titan, we see a bunch of other heroes go as well. Drax turns to dust from the snap.

11
Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill
Disney

Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill

Star-Lord is also gone because of the snap.

12
Mantis
Disney

Mantis

The snap gets Mantis as well.

13
Doctor Strange
Disney

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange disintegrates because of the snap.

14
Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker
Disney

Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker

This is definitely the saddest snap death. Peter hugs Tony Stark and says, "I don't want to go" as he turns to dust. He also says he's sorry.

15
Maria Hill
Disney

Maria Hill

Once we get to the postcredits scene, we see Hill and Nick Fury driving along in New York. When it seems like the world is going insane, she gets turned to dust by the snap.

16
Nick Fury
Disney

Nick Fury

The final one to go in the film is Nick Fury. Fortunately, he's able to do one last thing before the snap turns him to dust: he sends a distress signal . . . to Captain Marvel!
