The first film of an iconic franchise, A Cinderella Story follows geeky high school student Samantha Martin (Hilary Duff) as she handles the death of her father and adjusting to life with her cruel stepmother (Jennifer Coolidge) and stepsisters (Madeline Zima and Andrea Avery Ray). The family takes advantage of Sam's hard work and independence, often using her to do their chores and dirty work. School is no better, where she's bullied by rich mean girl Shelby (Julie Gonzalo). Yet, all of this changes when Sam begins a text correspondence with mystery man and fellow student Austin (Chad Michael Murray). They connect through emails and text messages over shared goals and ambition, agreeing to meet at the school's big dance. Little do they know how complicated getting there and through the aftermath will be.
