41 Shows We Had to Say Farewell To in 2019
Every year, we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite shows — sometimes without warning. Thankfully, in this golden age of television, the networks and streaming sites have gotten better about letting fans know when their shows are ending. Still, 2019 is going to be a hard year for anyone who loves Game of Thrones, Broad City, and a bevy of other critically acclaimed darlings. In fact, quite a few major series signed off for good this year, but hopefully this list will help you prepare to say goodbye to all of the shows ending in 2020.
Veep
Selina Meyer's political journey came to an end after the seventh season this year.
Game of Thrones
Season eight of Game of Thrones was short and not very sweet, and ended in May.
Jane the Virgin
After five seasons, Jane the Virgin came to a close this Spring.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Goodbye, Rebecca Bunch! Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has officially concluded.
The Big Bang Theory
After 12 seasons, Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, and the rest of the gang have moved on. The CBS show ended its epic run earlier this year.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
The second half of season four marked the end of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — technically. Netflix is reportedly still planning an interactive special in 2020 for the indomitable heroine.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Neil Patrick Harris has hung up his impressive wig collection, because A Series of Unfortunate Events's third season was also its last.
Gotham
Say goodbye to Gotham! The dark series ended in April.
Transparent
After the scandal surrounding Jeffrey Tambor, the actor did not return for the show's final season. Season five ended on a high note, though, thanks to the musical finale.
Broad City
Sorry, queens, but Broad City has called it quits.
iZombie
The CW also said goodbye to iZombie. The last season wrapped up in August.
The Affair
Joshua Jackson and Ruth Wilson had already left the show, but Showtime forged ahead with the final season, which ended in November.
Shadowhunters
Freeform wrapped up the fantasy series with a finale season, which ended in May.
You're the Worst
Initially, the final season of You're the Worst was expected in 2018, but FXX announced season five would air in 2019. It concluded in April.
Poldark
Ross and his luscious locks said a fond farewell to fans with season five.
Orange Is the New Black
Netflix's classic series Orange Is the New Black officially ended with the seventh season this year.
Mr. Robot
USA has canceled Mr. Robot. The network announced season four would be the drama's final outing, and ended in December.
Killjoys
Way back in 2017, Syfy renewed Killjoys for two more seasons, making its fifth season the end of the line for this sci-fi drama.
The Deuce
HBO announced the stylish '70s drama would end with season three.
Catastrophe
Amazon's marriage comedy Catastrophe signed off in March with one last brilliant season starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney.
Counterpart
Maybe in a parallel universe Starz's Counterpart will live on to see a third season, but in this one, the premium channel axed the sci-fi series at the end of its second season back in February.
Crashing
The final episode of HBO's Pete Holmes-led comedy Crashing aired back in March.
Easy
The third and final season of the romantic anthology series Easy premiered May 10 on Netflix.
Elementary
After seven seasons of crime-solving, Joan and Sherlock hung up their detective hats. CBS announced the 13-episode final season of Elementary would premiere on May 23.
Fleabag
Phoebe Waller-Bridge's brilliant Fleabag ended with season two.
Friends From College
Netflix canceled Friends From College. That means the season two finale that aired in January will also have to serve as the series finale of the short-lived comedy.
Fuller House
How rude! Netflix announced the fifth season will be the last for the extended Tanner family. The final season of Fuller House dropped on Dec. 6.
Into the Badlands
AMC's Into the Badlands wrapped up its last season in May.
Jessica Jones
Not even Jessica Jones was spared from Netflix's mass Marvel cancellation spree. The third season was the hard-drinking, super-powered detective's last.
Legion
Legion's final episode aired in August.
The Man in the High Castle
Amazon is closing the book on their alternative history series The Man in the High Castle. The show will ended with its fourth season.
Preacher
Preacher's finally season aired on AMC and wrapped up in September.
SMILF
Before the season two premiere, SMILF creator Frankie Shaw found herself facing misconduct charges, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Shortly after, Showtime opted not to renew the series for a third season. In a statement the network said, "After weighing a variety of factors, Showtime has decided that SMILF will not move forward for a third season."
Suits
The ninth season of USA's hit Suits served as the lawyer drama's swan song.
Andi Mack
Disney Channel's Andi Mack wrapped up its final season this Summer.
The Gifted
Fox's sci-fi show The Gifted ended after its second season earlier this year.
The OA
Netflix canceled The OA after its second season this year.
The Punisher
Netflix also canceled Marvel's The Punisher after just two seasons.
Runaways
After three seasons on Hulu, we said goodbye to Marvel's Runaways in December.
Santa Clarita Diet
Just as quickly as we welcomed season three of Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix this year, we also bid it farewell when the show was canceled.
