See the Rent Live Cast Side by Side With the Film's Cast

Rent is getting ready to be shared with a whole new generation through Fox's live production later this month. While the Broadway musical first opened in 1996, it was eventually turned into a film in 2005, starring a handful of the original cast members. As Fox gets ready to adapt the memorable story, we're anxious to see how some of the new stars will portray the memorable characters.

Vanessa Hudgens is set to take on Idina Menzel's memorable role as Maureen, while Jordan Fisher will be playing the show's lead Mark, who was originally played by Anthony Rapp. Before Fox's Rent Live premieres on Jan. 27, see how the new stars stack up against the movie cast ahead.

Anthony Rapp as Mark

The Star Trek: Discovery actor originated the role of Mark in the Broadway musical and reprised the role for the 2005 film.

Jordan Fisher as Mark

The 24-year-old singer, who previously starred in Fox's Grease Live, will take on the role of Mark.

Jesse L. Martin as Tom

The Flash star played Tom in the original Broadway production and again in the film.

Brandon Victor Dixon as Tom

The former Hamilton star, who made headlines for his role as Judas in NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live, will play Tom in Fox's live production.

Tracie Thoms as Joanne

Though Fredi Walker played Joanne in the original Broadway production, the 9-1-1 actress played the character in the film.

Kiersey Clemons as Joanne

The 25-year-old Dope star will be playing Joanne in Fox's live production.

Taye Diggs as Benjamin

The actor played Benjamin in both the original Broadway production and the film.

Mario as Benjamin

The "Let Me Love You" singer will play Benjamin in the live production.

Idina Menzel as Maureen

Menzel rose to stardom with her role as Maureen in the Broadway production of Rent, and she reprised her role in the 2005 film.

Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen

After playing Mimi in the Hollywood Bowl's production of Rent, Hudgens, who previously starred in Fox's Grease Live, will portray Maureen this time around.

Adam Pascal as Roger

The Broadway star originated the role of Roger in the musical and played him again in the film.

Brennin Hunt as Roger

The country singer will play Roger in the live production.

Rosario Dawson as Mimi

Though Daphne Rubin-Vega originated the role of Mimi in the Broadway production, the Daredevil actress took on the role in the film.

Tinashe as Mimi

The singer and dancer will play Mimi in the live production.

Wilson Jermaine Heredia as Angel

The Tony-winning actor originated the role of Angel in the Broadway production and reprised the role in the film.

Valentina as Angel

RuPaul's Drag Race's Valentina will play Angel in the live production.
