The Joker Is Hitting the Big Screen With a Star-Studded Cast — Check Out the Full List
Batman's long-hated archenemy is finally getting his solo run on the big screen, and it looks terrifying. Led by Joaquin Phoenix, Joker tells the gritty origin story of Arthur Fleck, the man who becomes the Joker after being driven insane by the cruelty of society around him. Phoenix is the seventh actor to portray the Joker in a theatrical film, but it's obvious that his portrayal will be a different take from the ones that came before him.
Not only does Joker boast a genuinely intriguing story, it also comes with a star-studded cast that includes American Horror Story's Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro, and Brett Cullen. Check out the rest of the cast ahead, and find out who they'll be playing when Joker hits theaters on Oct. 4.
Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker
Phoenix's Joker will be a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane after being disregarded and abused by society. His insanity leads him to become the psychotic criminal mastermind we can't seem to get enough of.
Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck
Conroy will portray Arthur's mother, Penny, who seems to have a slightly dysfunctional relationship with her son.
Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne
Cullen's version of Thomas Wayne will differ from any other iterations. While he's still the billionaire philanthropist father of Bruce Wayne, this time his character will be less sympathetic than more traditional incarnations, which we get a taste of in the trailer when he's seen criticizing the Joker.
Dante Pereira-Olson as Bruce Wayne
Pereira-Olson (pictured in the center, above) will bring the young Bruce Wayne to the big screen.
Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond
The Deadpool 2 star will play Sophie Dumond, a single mother and cynical love interest for Arthur.
Douglas Hodge as Alfred Pennyworth
Hodge will tackle the esteemed butler and caretaker of the Wayne family.
Robert De Niro as Murray Franklin
De Niro will portray Murray Franklin, a talk show host who has a hand in driving Arthur toward a life of crime.

If Beale Street Could Talk's Henry will play a nurse at Arkham Asylum.
