All the Major Characters Who Return in Avengers: Endgame

Warning: spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead!

It's not entirely a spoiler to say that many of the characters who died in Avengers: Infinity War don't stay dead by the end of Avengers: Endgame. After all, the "snapped away" characters do include some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's newest heroes, as well as at least one who has another film only a few months away. But not everyone who died in Infinity War has been brought back to life. Ahead, we've got a rundown of every single character who was brought back from Thanos's snap, plus where we leave them in the final minutes of Endgame, and who we may or may not see again soon.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man

This one seemed like a given, since Spider-Man: Far From Home is launching Marvel's Phase 4 later this year. Peter reappears in time for the final battle and has an emotional reunion with his mentor Tony before playing a key role in keeping the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos. After witnessing Tony sacrifice himself, Peter is last seen back in the halls of Midtown High, reuniting with bestie Ned as all the snapped teens return to their lives.

Black Panther

Black Panther

T'Challa's death was one of the most devastating in Infinity War, as his bodyguard Okoye had to watch in horror as he disintegrated. He makes a heroic return in Endgame, bringing what appears to be the entire Wakandan army with him through a portal to help with the final fight against Thanos.

03
Shuri
Everett Collection

Shuri

Shuri's fate was unknown at the end of Infinity War; her death was confirmed by her Endgame character poster and, in the movie itself, she appears on a screen noting the fallen. Not to worry, though: the genius princess joins her brother and fellow Wakandans to stop Thanos once and for all.

04
Bucky Barnes
Everett Collection

Bucky Barnes

Bucky Barnes has had it rough: nearly killed, brainwashed into being an assassin, and framed for a world-shattering murder. Then, just when he's finally getting back into some semblance of a normal life, Thanos snaps him out of existence. Bucky is brought back when the Hulk uses the Infinity Stones, and when Steve heads back in time to return the Stones, Bucky says goodbye, seeming to know exactly what his best friend is planning to do. This won't be Bucky's last appearance, though: Disney Plus has a team-up series for him and Falcon scheduled for the near future.

05
Sam Wilson
Everett Collection

Sam Wilson

Sam was snapped out of existence at the end of Infinity War, but it's his return in Endgame that alerts Cap that reinforcements are on the way. As Steve faces down Thanos, almost alone, he gets a call in his ear: Sam, with his callback line "On your left." Sam leads the army of returned characters through portals to finish the fight. And when an elderly Steve returns after his decades-long journey, it's Sam who gets the shield and, presumably, the mantle of the new Captain America.

06
Hank Pym
Everett Collection

Hank Pym

Pym was dusted at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp, stranding Scott in the Quantum Realm. He's seen again in Endgame, most notably standing with his family during Tony's funeral.

07
Hope van Dyne
Everett Collection

Hope van Dyne

Like her father, Hope fell victim to the snap right in the middle of Scott's journey in the Quantum Realm. She's brought back and fights side by side with Scott — and, in one deeply awesome scene, with all the heroines of the Marvel universe — in the final battle against Thanos's army.

08
Nick Fury
Everett Collection

Nick Fury

Fury managed to get a distress call out to Captain Marvel before disintegrating in the post-credits scene of Infinity War. He's brought back by the second snap, but he isn't seen again until he makes a brief, wordless appearance at Tony's funeral. Fury will next appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home.

09
Maria Hill
Everett Collection

Maria Hill

Like Fury, Hill returns from being snapped out of existence, but doesn't appear in Endgame until the whole team gathers for Tony Stark's funeral.

10
Scarlet Witch
Everett Collection

Scarlet Witch

Right after watching her love Vision get destroyed by Thanos for the Mind Stone, Wanda was killed by the snap. She's back in fighting form in Endgame, personally attacking Thanos and holding her own in one-on-one combat against the all-powerful villain. Wanda does survive the battle and is last seen sharing a quiet moment with Clint as they both mourn the people they loved and lost in the fight.

11
Doctor Strange
Everett Collection

Doctor Strange

Strange apparently set the winning timeline into motion back in Infinity War when he counterintuitively handed over the Time Stone to Thanos. His magic is crucial to the final battle, as it's him and his fellow sorcerers who construct the portals to bring all the heroes of Earth to the battlefield.

12
Peter Quill
Everett Collection

Peter Quill

Star-Lord messed up the initial plan to stop Thanos when he let his grief for Gamora get in the way of the task at hand — and he paid for it, falling victim to the snap. He and his team arrive in time to help with the last battle, and he's last seen reassembling his crew for another adventure (and arguing with Thor about who's really in charge).

13
Groot
Everett Collection

Groot

Now approximately a teenager, Groot returns from the snap along with the other Guardians. After surviving the battle, he joins his teammates to head back to space and on to (presumably) a new adventure.

14
Drax
Everett Collection

Drax

Like the other Guardians, Drax was killed in Thanos's snap in Infinity War, but returns with the second snap. He's on board their ship as the movie comes to an end, with their team mostly reunited (plus or minus a member).

15
Mantis
Everett Collection

Mantis

Mantis returns with her fellow Guardians after the Hulk reverses Thanos's snap with one of his own. She's back with her team at the end of the movie, apparently delighted at the standoff between Thor and Quill as to who, exactly, is leading them now.
