Can't Get Enough of Euphoria? Here Are 19 More Shows You Might Like

The award-winning HBO drama Euphoria is not your average teen drama. Although it depicts the typical teens-behaving-badly plots that are a staple of teen soaps, the graphic and intense nature of the series can easily catch viewers off guard. It's a gritty, edgy depiction of the awkwardness and, sometimes, downright horror of growing up: especially in a world where social media and technology has blurred more lines than ever before.

The controversial show has gotten plenty of attention from both audiences and critics, even winning lead actress Zendaya an Emmy for best actress in a drama. Its 2019 first season was followed by a pair of inter-season specials, while the full second season was delayed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although there aren't many television series that go quite as far as Euphoria does, there are many shows that tackle similar issues regarding sexuality, violence, bullying, and the complicated feelings of simply being a teenager. The very idea of teen programming has blurred too, with Euphoria depicting the harsher side of being a teenager in a very adult way. Meanwhile, other shows that are glossier and lighthearted, still pack an emotional punch and offer a different look into the struggles of adolescence. The diversity in this genre is a testament to just how broad the experience of being a teenager is — after all, what feels "realistic" for one person or one community might seem completely outside the norm for others.

Still, Euphoria is almost sure to touch on something that everyone has gone through, even if it's presented in a much more dramatic, stylized way. Whether you're looking for a soapy, twisty drama, a show with a touch of supernatural flair, or something a little bit lighter to pair with your next viewing of Euphoria, we've got you covered. Check out 19 of our best recommendations for shows like Euphoria.

13 Reasons Why
Everett Collection

13 Reasons Why

Much like Euphoria, this controversial teen drama from Netflix tackles the dark side of teenage life. The show starts out with a flashback structure after a teenage girl dies by suicide, leaving behind a series of tapes that record her "reasons why" for ending her life. As the tapes slowly find their way into the hands of the people in her life, they each are forced to reckon with the roles they played, intentionally or not, in the events that led to her death. Later seasons continue to follow Hannah's classmates as they navigate more drama and trauma while they make it through high school.

02
The 100
Everett Collection

The 100

Euphoria's teens are pretty much without adult supervision as they lead outrageous lives, and so are the "troublemaker" teens and young adults of The 100. The only difference is that The 100's teens are trying determining if the abandoned Earth is safe for building their own society. There's definitely less shock in The 100, although it's not a frothy teen dramedy by any means. Instead of dealing with drugs, sexual assault, and catfishing, these teenagers are trying to figure out how to survive, which factions they can trust, and what really happened to make the Earth uninhabitable in the first place.

03
Elite
Everett Collection

Elite

In this edgy Spanish drama, a group of working-class teens enroll in a private school, and the class conflict goes from typical teen rivalries, to all-out murder. Over the course of several seasons, the show deals with all sorts of scandalous, shocking, and complicated issues. There are plenty of love triangles (and the occasional threesome) scheming, and gossip, but these teens also go through their own high stakes family drama. This show is essentially mixes the edginess of Euphoria, with the glitzy soap opera vibes that was present in the original Gossip Girl. However, Elite really is a phenomenon that's all its own.

04
Everything Sucks!
Everett Collection

Everything Sucks!

For unfiltered teenage shenanigans without the dark and twisty drama, the short-lived dramedy Everything Sucks! is a great fit. Set in 1990s middle American town literally called Boring, the A/V club and the drama club are both the outcasts and misfits of their high school. However, instead of being bonded together by their mutual outsider status, they have their own intense rivalry. A series of inter-club crushes and accidental hijinks boosts the rivalry into high gear, all while the teens in both clubs are dealing with sexuality, love triangles, college plans, and all the obstacles that tend to come with high school.

05
Gossip Girl
Everett Collection

Gossip Girl

Euphoria is full of teens behaving badly, and although the original Gossip Girl — as a broadcast network show — couldn't be as explicit, it's just as darkly dramatic and hedonistic. The series follows the exploits of a bunch of uber-rich New York teens and young adults. On the Upper East Side, a neighborhood that's home to the wealthy elite, two "queen bees" and former BFFs duke it out to see who really holds the most sway at their elite prep school. As the girls and their friends (and frenemies) lie, cheat, betray, fall in love, and shift alliances, they find they all have one common enemy: "Gossip Girl," an anonymous blogger who seems to be able to reveal everyone's dirty little secrets.

06
On My Block
Everett Collection

On My Block

On My Block deals with tough and sensitive issues, but in a far more lighthearted way. While Euphoria tells the story of self-destructive, insecure teens, this series tackles what it's like to grow up in a violent neighborhood where you always have to look over your shoulder. On My Block follows a group of childhood friends as they enter high school. The friends fight and fall in love (sometimes with each other), plan for a future beyond high school, and try to survive in their rough neighborhood that is in the midst of a gang war. The series reaches a fever pitch when the ongoing violence in their neighborhood starts to personally affect each of the main characters.

07
Pretty Little Liars
Everett Collection

Pretty Little Liars

For badly behaved, hyper-dramatic teens, look no further than Pretty Little Liars. This series follows four former best friends who each get a text message from an anonymous person who knows their secrets, and hints that she might be the group's former leader — who also happens to be dead. The drama kicks off with murder, some serious stalking, a teacher-student romance, and even more wild plot-lines that rival those of Euphoria. It definitely has its own aesthetic, somewhere between the glossy teen dramas of the late-00s, and a made-for-TV murder movie. But it's absolutely the kind of show you can't look away from.

08
Riverdale
Everett Collection

Riverdale

A few years ago, no one would have ever put the words "edgy" and "Archie Comics" in the same sentence. But ever since Riverdale debuted, it's turned the "wholesome" nostalgia of the Archie Comics, into a twisty, dark drama packed with sex, conspiracy, and betrayals. The show starts off relatively tame, (in hindsight) with just a penchant for scandalous storylines and gasp-worthy twists. As the show progresses, it starts to veer into the supernatural, and from there, it's totally off the rails. Although the teen characters have since been time-skipped into adulthood, its roots as a teen drama make it a great choice for Euphoria fans.

09
Skins
Everett Collection

Skins

Skins is the original gritty teen drama. The British series follows the heartfelt, yet, edgy exploits of a group of teens struggling to figure out the whole growing up thing. Long before Euphoria tackled the ugly and difficult challenges of modern adolescence, Skins did the same for its own generation, covering issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, bullying, broken families, and more. Skins did get an American remake, but it never quite took off like the British original. Plus, the original series is packed with stars like Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel, Kaya Scodelario, and Joe Dempsie during their younger days.

10
The Society
Everett Collection

The Society

The Society is not quite as edgy as Euphoria, though it does have its dark moments. Similar to The 100 the show takes place in a world where adults vanish, leaving teenagers to live their lives like no one's watching. As the survivors try to figure out how to build their own society and contact the outside world (if there is an outside world left), they also deal with the usual angsty issues that come with being a teenager. However, viewers be warned: You will have to be okay with being left without closure since the show's planned second season was cancelled.

11
The Vampire Diaries
Everett Collection

The Vampire Diaries

Like your twisty teen dramas with a side of supernatural? The Vampire Diaries combines all the tropes of hard-partying teens with a hefty dose of vampire, werewolf, and witch mythology. The series follows Elena Gilbert, a teen who is struggling with the death of her parents. However, Elena is quickly drawn towards a mysterious new student, Stefan, but the arrival of his devilish brother Damon quickly reveals that not all is as it seems in their small town of Mystic Falls. Elena learns that the brothers are vampires, supernatural creatures and curses lurk in her town, and that her link to the brothers goes back over a century.

12
Gossip Girl (2021)
HBO

Gossip Girl (2021)

Gossip Girl returned in 2021 for a steamy reboot that retains all of the juicy drama of the original series, with a hint of modern-day Euphoria vibes. Once again, the teenagers at an elite New York City prep school find themselves targeted by an anonymous gossipmonger who seems to enjoy spilling everyone's secrets and stirring up trouble. At the center of it all are a pair of half-sisters who have lived very different — and very separate — lives. The siblings' burgeoning friendship is quickly complicated by the inevitable gossip and hierarchy of the school. Romances come and go, and scandals shake up everyone's lives. As always, Gossip Girl sees, and tells all.

Never Have I Ever
Everett Collection

Never Have I Ever

If you're looking for a more comedic take on what it's like to be a high school student, then this heartwarmingly awkward comedy is for you. Like the characters on Euphoria, overachiever Devi and her friends aren't always likeable, as they make the self-absorbed mistakes that so many teenagers do. Following the sudden death of her father, Devi has a lot on her plate both at school and at home. She compounds the problem by accidentally (and then intentionally) starting rumors about herself and her jock crush. As it all spins out of control, she and her friends try to salvage things, with hilariously mixed results.

I Am Not Okay With This
Everett Collection

I Am Not Okay With This

Euphoria's teens have a lot to deal with, but they don't have one problem that the protagonist of I Am Not Okay With This has: superpowers. Based on a comic book, this dark comedy follows a teenage girl who slowly realizes that she has telekinetic powers that struggles to control. If that wasn't enough, she's also crushing on her neighbor's best friend and living a complicated life with her widowed mother. It's nowhere near as scandalous and edgy as Euphoria, but it still has a lot to say about how tough it can be to be a teenager in the modern world, especially a teenager who is clearly "different" in some way.

15
Love, Victor
Everett Collection

Love, Victor

If you appreciate Euphoria's willingness to tackle important and sometimes uncomfortable issues, but would prefer a show that's not quite so dark, then Love Victor is for you. The show centers on Victor, a teenage boy who is slowly coming to terms with the fact that he's gay. To add to this, his loving but very traditional family puts Victor in an uncomfortable position that compels him to stay in the closet. As Victor and his friends navigate the trials and tribulations that come with being a teen, the show's characters experience plenty of heartbreak and tough conversations. However, there's also plenty of laughs, love, and support to be found in this series.

16
Genera+ion
HBO

Genera+ion

Much like Euphoria's cast of messy teenagers struggling to find themselves, Genera+ion's core group of high schoolers explore their identities while pushing back against their very traditional and conservative community. The show covers a lot of ground in just one season, from activism and sexuality to bigotry and more. It's definitely the kind of show that feels tailor-made to be a companion for Euphoria, with different takes on the same idea of showing what modern teens go through, both good and bad. If you're looking for a show that us unafraid to tackle sexual identity — minus the Euphoria intensity — Genera+ion is definitely a must-watch.

17
Grown-ish
Everett Collection

Grown-ish

This spinoff of Black-ish follows Zoey as she heads to college. While the show focuses on characters a little older than Euphoria, there's still a similar intent of telling a modern-day coming-of-age tale. In Grown-ish Zoey quickly discovers that life outside of her family and home is very different than what she expected. Along the way, she gathers a group of friends who are all trying to do their best to get through college and figure out adulthood together. It shines a spotlight on important issues like consent, racism, sexuality, social justice, and more, but with more of a comic style than Euphoria's gritty drama.

18
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Everett Collection

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Euphoria's "dark" content is about its gritty take on things like sex, bullying, sexuality, and drugs. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina gives "dark" content a whole new meaning, as the Devil himself takes centerstage. Rather than the peppy teenage witch of the early-2000s sitcom, this Sabrina is torn between two realms — the human and the witch worlds. While Sabrina trains to be part of a coven that swears its allegiance to Satan, she also deals with teen problems like mean girls and love triangles. As the show progresses, Sabrina unravels the mystery of her own origins, and is eventually forced to make a decision about what to do with her incredible magical power.

19
Spinning Out
Everett Collection

Spinning Out

Much like Euphoria, Spinning Out combines a seemingly glam aesthetic with the harsh, gritty reality beneath it. The characters are a little older than Euphoria's high schoolers, but these young adults have been pro athletes all their lives, so they never really got to have a "normal" adolescence. As a result, a whole community of figure skaters develop nasty rivalries, fall in love, and ruthlessly compete against each other. Many of the same issues in Euphoria such as body image, peer pressure, sexual harassment and assault, are all present in this show. However, throwing figure skating into the mix really helps this drama stand out.
